Changes in PhD rules at Lucknow University, from color of thesis to part-time research, know what will change

Lucknow University (LU) has taken many important decisions related to researchers and teachers. The Executive Council of the University has allowed the color of the binding of the thesis to be determined according to the different faculties to facilitate the identification of PhD theses. Along with this, teachers of government and aided degree colleges have been allowed to guide part-time PhD students. A procedure for converting regular PhD to part time has also been laid down. The meeting also decided on proposals related to reservation in PhD admissions, new teaching posts in the law faculty and naming of the university’s sports complex.

The meeting was held in the brainstorming room located in the administration building. To organize the documentation of the research work, three colors were determined according to the faculty for the binding of the PhD thesis.

Three colors prescribed for PhD thesis

  • Blue Color: Theses of management, commerce, education, science and engineering faculties will be in blue color.
  • Maroon Color: Maroon color is prescribed for essays in Art, Fine Art, Law and Abhinavagupta Institute.
  • Forest Green: Theses of the Faculty of Agriculture, Yoga and Alternative Medicine, Ayurveda and Unani will be prepared in this color.
  • The initiative aims to facilitate the process of identification of research theses and verification of documents related to them.

College teachers can provide guidance for part time Ph.D

The Executive Council has permitted teachers of Government and aided affiliated degree colleges to be supervisors of part-time PhD students. With this, researchers are expected to get more opportunities for mentoring.

SOP for Change from Regular to Part-time Ph.D

The University has approved a five-step Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for conversion of regular PhD to part time. Under this, the application has to be submitted to the Head of the concerned department. This is followed by the recommendation of the Departmental Research Committee, approval of the Vice-Chancellor, No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Registrar and deposit of the prescribed fee.

Five percent reservation in PhD admissions

A proposal to give five per cent reservation in PhD admissions to teachers’ wards of affiliated colleges was also approved on the demand of the College Teachers’ Association. The process will be similar to the system followed for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Information was also given about the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Program (AEDP) Ordinance seeking formal approval from the Raj Bhavan.

Decisions regarding sports complex and LLB programme

According to university spokesperson Mukul Srivastava, the newly constructed sports complex will be named Prof. D. P. Singh Sports Building after former Vice Chancellor Prof. D. P. Singh. In addition, 17 new self-financed teaching posts have been sanctioned for the five-year LLB programme. These posts are expected to help in better management of teaching work in Law Faculty.
