There is important news for researchers doing PhD in Bihar. Now the universities have to upload the researcher’s thesis on Shodhganga portal before awarding the PhD degree. Without this no researcher will be awarded the PhD degree. Lok Bhavan has given clear instructions to the chancellors of all the universities in the state in this regard. Apart from this, the secretariat administration has also sought the thesis reports uploaded on the portal from the universities. As per the instructions, it will be mandatory to upload the research proposal on the portal within one week of the completion of the PhD oral examination.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made a rule for uploading theses on Sodhtaganga portal to prevent duplication and plagiarism in research work. However, the Governor and the Chancellor’s Secretariat have expressed displeasure over the non-compliance of this rule in universities in Bihar. Now the universities have to complete this process within the stipulated time. According to information received from the Lok Bhavan, state universities have so far uploaded 20,152 theses of PhD holders on the portal. At the same time, the work of uploading theses of about 50 thousand PhD holders is pending.

Will help prevent copying

According to UGC rules, universities have to upload dissertations on Shodhganga after checking them for plagiarism. This portal is developed under Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET). Its aim is to make research work available across the country at one place. Along with this, students and researchers of other universities will also be able to see the thesis. Also, it will help prevent plagiarism of research materials.

Pataliputra University has already issued notification

Pataliputra University had implemented this rule for researchers in May itself. The university clarified that if the due process is not completed, the PhD award notification will not be issued and the researcher will not get the degree.

The report has to be submitted along with the thesis

Universities have also decided on a prescribed format for submitting the thesis. This will include title page, declaration, certificate, acknowledgement, table of contents, abstract, five chapters, bibliography, questionnaire and other necessary documents. Apart from this, findings, summary, information on future research and plagiarism report are also to be submitted. All these documents are required to be submitted in the prescribed format.
