Adani Group Data Center Loan: India’s richest man Gautam Adani is now going to increase his dominance in the digital world. The Adani Group is gearing up to take a loan of around $1.5 billion (roughly over Rs 12,500 crore) to expand its data center business. According to sources with knowledge of the matter, this amount will be raised as a foreign loan.
The move by Adani Group shows that the company is now moving beyond its traditional energy business and betting big on digital infrastructure. The company plans to invest a whopping $100 billion in data centers and other digital infrastructure by 2035. This new loan is an important step towards achieving this big goal.
Which foreign banks are in talks with?
Adani Group’s joint venture company ‘AdaniConneX Pvt.’ Have taken the lead for this big loan. The company has been formed in association with data center operator EdgeConneX. The sources said on condition of anonymity that talks are going on with many big banks of the world for this offshore funding.
The list of banks includes DBS Group Holdings (DBS Group), First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). Not only this, the Adani Group is also in discussions with other global lenders such as Natixis SA, ING Bank NV and Societe Generale SA for this loan.
Currently, the interest rate of this loan is being negotiated. It is believed that these loans can be for a period of five to seven years. However, the terms of the loan have not been decided yet. First Abu Dhabi Bank, along with DBS Bank, declined to comment on the matter. Emails sent by Adani Group, MUFG, Societe Generale, Natixis or ING Bank went unanswered.
Competition with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance
Gautam Adani is not alone in this data center game. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance, the country’s second largest businessman, has also entered this sector with full force. Reliance Group plans to invest up to $110 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) related infrastructure over the next seven years.
The competition between these two largest business houses in the country is rapidly expanding the data center market in India. In fact, in addition to AI, massive computing capacity is needed to meet the growing demand for cloud services. This is the reason why large companies are rapidly building data centers.
Fast growing data center market in India
According to local media reports, a major surge in data center capacity is expected in India. In August 2026, the country’s data center capacity was around 1.57 GW. The government hopes to increase this capacity to around 8 GW by 2030.
The pace of this sector can be gauged from the fact that India’s data center market is likely to see an investment of around $200 billion in the next seven to eight years. This latest funding effort by the Adani group comes at a time when AdaniConnex secured an $800 million data center loan just a few months ago. The earlier loan was taken for a period of 18 months. This new deal, now worth $1.5 billion, will give new momentum to the company’s expansion.
