Because of this, the wealth of investors has increased by 8 lakh crore rupees in just 5 hours. At the same time, Nifty is also trading with a strong strength at the level of 24,557.80. Gift Nifty saw a jump of more than 300 points since morning. It was for this reason that it was easy for the Nifty to cross the 24,300 level as soon as the market opened.
After 542 days, the stock market has witnessed such a huge jump of almost 2,000 points. Earlier last year, on May 12, 2025, the Sensex rose to a record 2,975.43 points (3.74%). A sudden cease-fire agreement between India and Pakistan ended the tension at that time. Also, there was positive sentiment across the world regarding the trade deal between the US and China. Today’s fresh rally came on the back of US mid-term election results and a massive drop in crude oil prices.
Crude oil got a big boost with the US election results
The biggest role behind this surge in the market is global cues. In the mid-term elections held in the United States, the Democratic Party has won both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The results bring an end to political uncertainty in Washington. After this, the American market recorded the biggest jump in 44 years on Wall Street. The Dow Jones closed up 3.03% (1,569 points), the S&P 500 1.58%, and the Nasdaq 1.44% higher. This global signal had a direct impact on the Indian market.
The second biggest relief for the Indian economy has come on the crude oil front. After the election results, Democratic leaders in the US Congress have made statements to boost peace talks in West Asia. Because of this, the price of Brent crude has decreased by 9% to 94.12 dollars per barrel. India imports 85% of its crude oil requirements. In such a situation, cheap oil directly helps in controlling the country’s import bill, current account deficit and inflation.
Bumper buying in banking shares due to return of foreign investors
In addition to the weakness in the dollar index, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are increasingly returning to markets such as India after the fall in US 10-year bond yields. In the last trading session, foreign investors invested Rs. 7,284 crore net purchase. Due to this universal flow of money, the wealth of investors has increased tremendously.
In this historic boom, financial sector stocks have captured the market along with banking at the forefront. Nifty Bank surged by a whopping 1,516 points to touch a fresh high of 57,429.65. Bankex also saw a strong increase of 2.85%. Nifty IT rose 1.80% to 32,639. Midcap index also saw strong buying of 1.42%. Buying in major stocks like Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank lifted the index over 1,300 points.
How will the market fare in the future?
Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, on this stormy pace of the market. He has given his opinion. According to him, the sharp drop in crude oil prices in the international market has given major support to the Indian stock market. However, the direction the market will go next will depend on two main factors. The first is how sustainable the flow of money from foreign investors (FIIs) is. Second, whether the price of crude oil remains below $95.
