Despite the fall in the stock markets around the world, the Indian stock market has been witnessing a stormy rally for the past one week. Due to this boom, the total market cap of all the listed companies in the country is Rs. 500 lakh crore has been crossed. The biggest reason for this upswing in the market is continuous buying by foreign investors and good quarterly results of companies.
According to the data, the total market cap of the Indian stock market increased to Rs. 502 lakh crore has been reached. In the last five trading sessions, foreign investors have invested a total of Rs. 35,781 crore worth of shares have been purchased. At the same time, in the last trading session itself, FIIA Rs. 14,796 crore net purchase. This is the largest single-day buying by foreign investors in the last 6 years.
The market cap is 13 times the GDP of Pakistan
This figure is approximately 13 times of Pakistan’s GDP. According to World Bank data, Pakistan’s GDP in 2025 is 407 billion US dollars. Which is approximately 38 lakh crore rupees in Indian rupees. That is, the market cap of Indian companies has become almost 13 times that of Pakistan’s GDP. But the thing to keep in mind is that GDP is a comparative example based on data and is meant to be understood. Market cap and GDP are different economic measures.
Markets around the world fall, but bullish trend in India
This surge in the Indian market has come at a time when many major stock markets around the world are witnessing a steep decline. Fears of increased AI-related regulations and potential restrictions have fueled investor anxiety in foreign markets. It also affected US technology-based Nasdaq, South Korea’s Kospi and Taiwan’s TaiEx. These markets saw declines of up to 6%. In some markets, the decline was so great that circuit breakers had to be installed to stop trading.
On the contrary, the Indian market showed strength amid these declines. Both Nifty 50 and Sensex are bullish. Both the major indices have gained around 6% in the last 5 trading sessions. At the same time, an increase of around 8% has been recorded so far in the month of November.
Large cap stocks dominated the market
Big companies i.e. large cap stocks have benefited the most from this boom in the market. Good quarterly results and better-than-expected earnings from companies have boosted investor confidence. Earlier, the market saw more growth in smallcap and midcap shares. However, market experts were constantly saying that share prices of major companies are currently at attractive levels. Due to this reason, foreign investors’ money is now moving towards large stocks.
