Indian institutions have made their presence felt globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) tops the list. IISc has been ranked 254th among universities worldwide. Apart from this, several Indian institutes including Savetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Shulini University, Jamia Millia Islamia, KIIT and LPU have also been included in the ranking. The Times Higher Education rankings are compiled based on various criteria of universities such as teaching, research, engagement with industry and international collaboration.

Many other Indian universities have also made it to the rankings. Savetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences is placed in 326-350 band. Shulini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences is in 451-500 band. While Jamia Millia Islamia, KIIT and Lovely Professional University (LPU) have been ranked in the 510-550 band. Bands are used for universities whose ranks fall within a certain range.

The World University Rankings evaluate universities on several key parameters. These include teaching environment, research environment, quality of research, linkages with industry and international engagement. Research-related criteria include the university’s research reputation, research income, published research and citations for research works. Through it an attempt is made to understand the impact of the institute’s research in the academic field.

Uses data provided by universities to prepare rankings. Along with this, a large number of published research papers and information related to their citations are also analysed. The ranking also takes into account universities’ international collaborations and ties with industry.
