More than 60% candidates did not appear in SSC CGL exam, what is the reason?

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) 2026 Tier-I examination has started from Wednesday. On the first day, the turnout of candidates in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar was around 40 percent. Out of 29,609 candidates registered at 36 centers of SSC Central Region, only 11,593 appeared for the examination. That means more than 60 percent candidates did not appear for the exam on the first day. The exam will be conducted in three shifts on different dates till October 30. A total of 10,731 vacancies will be filled in Central Government Departments under this recruitment process.

UP-Bihar had so much presence

On the first day, 7,597 candidates appeared for the exam out of 20,003 registered candidates in Uttar Pradesh. The attendance here was 37.98 percent. While in Bihar, out of 9,606 candidates, 3,996 candidates took the exam. In Bihar, the attendance was recorded at 41.60 percent. In Prayagraj, out of 2,922 candidates, 1,481 appeared for the exam. The attendance here was 50.68 percent.

In how many shifts is the exam conducted?

The SSC CGL Tier-1 exam is being conducted in three shifts. First shift will be from 10 am to 11 am, second shift from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and third shift from 5 pm to 6 pm. The exam will be conducted on different dates till October 30.

10,731 posts will be recruited

SSC CGL 2026 will fill 10,731 Group B and Group C posts in Central Government Ministries, Departments and Organizations. Of these, 4,412 posts are for unreserved, 2,772 for OBC, 1,028 for EWS, 1,715 for SC and 804 for ST category.

CBIC has a maximum of 3,687 posts. This includes 2,366 posts of Central Excise Inspector and 841 posts of Tax Assistant. CBDT has 2,421 posts, of which 595 are Income Tax Inspectors and 1,400 are Tax Assistants.

How many questions will be asked in Tier-1?

The Tier-1 computer based exam will have 25 questions each from Reasoning, General Awareness, Maths and English. There will be total 100 questions of 200 marks. Candidates will be given 60 minutes time to solve the questions in the exam. 0.50 marks will be deducted for wrong answer.

When can Tier-2 Exam be held?

Candidates who qualify in Tier-1 will be eligible for Tier-II examination. According to SSC, Tier-II is likely to be conducted in December 2026.
