There is a big update for the students who are preparing to give the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission in central and other universities like DU. National Testing Agency (NTA) is preparing changes in CUET UG-CUET PG pattern. This entire exercise is meant to give relief to students appearing for the exam. According to media reports, on the directions of the Ministry of Education, NTA experts have prepared a new roadmap, which may be issued as guidelines after final approval. It is believed that NTA will issue these guidelines soon.

Come on, let’s know about CUET. Let us know how the current pattern of CUET UG is causing trouble to students. You will also learn about the proposed changes.

A look at CUET

  • CUET is conducted by NTA for admission to more than 45 central and other universities.
  • CUET is conducted for admission to UG seats of UG Universities.
  • CUET is conducted for admission to PG seats in PG universities.
  • Universities offer admission to UG-PG seats based on CUET score.
  • CUET UG is a big exam of NTA, more than 15 lakh students appeared in it.
  • CUET UG is organized by NTA for 12 to 15 days.
  • NTA conducts examination of 37 subjects under CUET UG.

A look at CUET UG Exam Pattern

To understand the whole thing, first we have to take a look at the current pattern of CUET UG exam, through which it can be easily understood that how significant is the change in CUET exam pattern. Let’s take a look at the CUET UG exam pattern and the problems it poses to students.

4 to 5 subject exams have to be given, students are troubled for many days.

CUET UG is organized by NTA in total 37 subjects. It consists of 23 domain subjects, 13 languages and 1 General Aptitude Test (GAT). According to the admission criteria of the universities, the students have to appear compulsorily in 4 to 5 subjects. Many universities have made GAT score mandatory, while many have made 2 languages mandatory. In such a situation, the difficulties of the students are constantly increasing. The biggest problem is related to the exam window. Many times, students are given two subject exams in the early days, while other subject exams are held in the last days. For example, exams for different subjects are held on different days. In such a situation, students have to go for the exam on different days, which is impractical and also expensive. For example, students have to go to the exam center on two to three different days.

Currently, each subject test is of 60 minutes duration, with 50 questions.

Talking about the current pattern of CUET-UG, every student has to appear for 4 to 5 subjects compulsorily. In the current pattern, the exam is conducted for 60 minutes for each subject, in which 50 questions are asked. Thus, if a student is appearing for 5 subjects, he will have to appear for 5 hours on different days and solve 250 questions. When someone has to appear for 4 subjects exam in a day, he has to solve the paper for 240 minutes.

These changes are being considered

The demand for change in CUET pattern was pending for a long time. According to the information, experts have prepared a roadmap after brainstorming about this. An official announcement regarding this will be made by NTA soon. According to information, NTA is preparing to issue guidelines soon with the changes. Come on, let’s find out what possible changes are going to happen.

Exam will be conducted in one day, only one center will be allotted.

In CUET UG students had to go to different exam centers to appear in different subjects and sometimes they had to go to the exam center twice a day. Under the proposed changes, the NTA is planning to conduct all subject examinations on the same day for each candidate, under which they will be allotted a single examination centre. That is, all subject examinations will be conducted on the same day at the same centre.

Number of questions will be less, time also will be less.

Under another important change, NTA is also working on a plan to reduce the number of subject-wise questions asked in CUET, which will reduce the number of questions, as well as the time to solve them. Under the proposed scheme, 40 to 45 minutes can be allotted for each subject. Conducting all subjects in one day will enable students to clear the exam in less time.

Also preparing to reduce the number of subjects

Under the current pattern of CUET UG, students have to appear for 4 to 5 subjects compulsorily, under which a consensus among universities is being planned to relax some of the subjects. It is believed that the requirement of GTA can be relieved.
