Recently, due to the increase in crude oil prices, petroleum companies have increased the prices of jet fuel from October 1. This increase was more than 13 percent. Significantly, this increase has reached almost 25 percent due to the increase in jet fuel prices in the last three months. Due to which the country’s largest domestic airline IndiGo has increased its fuel surcharge. Due to which, air travel by IndiGo may become expensive in the coming days. This increase depends on distance and location. This surcharge will be implemented from October 6 i.e. Tuesday. Let us also tell you what kind of update has come out from Indigo.

Indigo’s big announcement

IndiGo on Monday announced an increase in fuel charges on domestic and international flights. The biggest reason is the increase in jet fuel prices. These new charges will be applicable to all new bookings made from 12:01 AM on October 6, 2026. For domestic flights, the fuel charge will be between Rs 375 to Rs 1,300 per sector depending on the distance. For international routes the charge is Rs. 1000 to Rs. 10000 will be between. Jet fuel price per liter from October 1 Rs. 121 to approximately Rs. 137 per liter has gone up. This is the third consecutive monthly increase. Earlier, the prices were increased by Rs 5 per liter in August and Rs 6.28 per liter in September. IndiGo said fuel prices have increased by over 14 per cent compared to last month, pushing ATF prices to their highest level in over a decade. ATF is a major component of an airline’s operating costs and affects an airline’s cost structure and network economics.

More than 2,000 950 1,300 is

IndiGo last changed its domestic fuel charges in April, when it adopted a distance-based charging system, with each sector charging Rs. 275 to Rs. There were charges up to 950. On October 5, at around 12.30 pm, shares of IndiGo’s operator company InterGlobe Aviation rose 0.12 percent on the BSE to Rs. was trading at 4927.15.

International fuel charges

A revised charge of Rs 1,000 will be charged for distance up to 500 km on SAARC route and Rs 3,000 for distance above SAARC route. 5,500 will be charged for South-East Asia, GCC and Middle East and North and East Asia routes. The charge for Africa will be Rs 6,000, while the fuel charge for Europe will be Rs 10,000. The latest hike comes at a time when airlines are facing renewed pressure from fuel costs. IndiGo had said in May that it was considering fuel hedging after a sharp rise in jet fuel prices hit margins.

Still the increase in surcharge has been reduced

The airline said this latest hike in fuel charges is still less than the amount needed to fully offset the increase in fuel costs. The airline said that while fuel charges need to increase significantly to offset the increase in fuel costs, IndiGo has implemented a balanced and relatively modest change to minimize the impact on customers. IndiGo regrets that these revised fuel charges may impose additional burden on consumers. However, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the continuous increase in operating costs and the changing market environment. IndiGo will continue to monitor the situation and make appropriate changes as needed.
