US President Donald Trump on Monday (October 5) acknowledged that American B-1 bombers had been withdrawn from Britain’s RAF Fairford airbase. He said that this decision was taken due to the threat related to Iran. He said that America is aware of the threat, so it is not appropriate to have bombers there.
In fact, the US recently recalled all its bomber aircraft from RAF Fairford Airbase in Britain. This airbase was used by the US Army to attack Iran. America has taken this decision amid the investigation of the attack plot on this airbase of Britain. According to the report, the American bombers have been sent back to their military bases in America. Now Trump himself has confirmed this.
‘We were aware of the risk’
Speaking to reporters about the movement of American bombers from RAF Fairford, Trump said, ‘We knew there could be a threat and why would I leave them there? It costs very little money to relocate them,’ he said. ‘If we are being threatened, we will move them.’ Trump also claimed that the US knew about the people who made the threat. When asked further if he would have a relationship with Iran, Trump said, ‘He will have a relationship with Iran.’
Actions taken after apprehension of attack
According to an Associated Press report, the US Air Force has relocated a B-1 bomber plane stationed at an airbase in England after investigating a suspected terrorist attack at the RAF Fairford base. The planes have been sent back to their bases in the US. American bomber aircraft were stationed at RAF Fairford and were recently used in strikes against Iran.
Meanwhile, last week a British-Iranian national was arrested in London on suspicion of plotting a terror attack. The action follows a security incident at RAF Fairford Airbase in September. A total of six people were detained in the case, though they were later released.
J.D. Vance attacked Iran
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance said that the decision to remove the bombers was taken as a precautionary measure. He accused Iran of being involved in terrorism against the US and other countries. Vance told reporters that ‘we have some confidence that the Iranians are trying to do what the Iranian state has been doing for 49 years, which is to engage in terrorist activities against the United States (and others), so we are extremely cautious, and that’s all I’ll say about it’.
Marco Rubio declined
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that there is no direct connection between the sudden withdrawal of the bombers and the suspected plot by Iran. According to the report, he said the Pentagon is constantly deploying its resources to different locations as needed.
What did Iran’s foreign minister say?
On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi questioned Britain’s indication of Iran’s involvement. Sharing a post on social media, he said, ‘I can confirm Iran’s belief that releasing alleged terrorists working for foreign states says it all. His ‘You’re going in the wrong direction’ comment was in reference to British Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s suggestion that there were strong indications of Iranian involvement in the incident at RAF Fairford Airbase.
