Kawasaki has been in the limelight by showing glimpses of its new sport-touring bike, the Versys 900. The company has released a new teaser, which shows some parts of the bike. However, official information about its final name and specifications is yet to be revealed. The teaser suggests that the bike is designed with long distance riding in mind. It has an upright riding position, a large windscreen and the necessary fittings for luggage storage. It is likely to make an entry in India as well, but the company has not made any announcement regarding its launch here.

Will be designed according to long rides

The teaser shows the bike’s wide and cushioned seat, on which the rider and the person sitting on the back can also find comfort. Apart from this, mounts are provided for installing side panniers and top boxes. These features show that attention has been paid to making the bike useful for daily driving in the city as well as long commutes.

Kawasaki may use the Z900 as the basis for the new Versys 900. However, the company can modify or make the frame stronger to handle the extra bodywork and luggage weight of a touring bike. There is no official confirmation about the chassis yet.

Will keep an eye on suspension and engine

Based on the teaser, the front of the bike is tipped to get 17-inch wheels and radial brake calipers. Its suspension may have more travel than the Z900, which is expected to improve comfort when riding on rough roads. The remote preload adjuster found in the Versys 650 and Versys 1100 may also be offered in the new bike, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Talking about the engine, it is likely to get the Z900’s 948cc, four-cylinder engine. In the Z900, this engine produces 125hp of power and 98.6Nm of torque. However, it is not yet clear whether Kawasaki will keep the same output in the new bike or change the engine tuning and gearing.

Many electronic features can be found

The teaser shows a three-light headlamp design. Its styling looks more similar to the Z900 and KLE500 than the current Versus models. Possible features may include ride and power modes, cruise control, traction control, bi-directional quickshifter, dual-channel ABS and a 5-inch TFT display.
