If you are afraid of speed cameras and challans while driving on the expressway, there is an important news for you. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that speeding challan should not be sent to vehicles traveling at a speed of 120 kmph. Not only this, it has been said that the challan will not be issued even at speeds 20 per cent more than the 120 kmph limit. That is, Gadkari has directed officials to relax the speed limit of 144 kmph on expressways with a limit of 120 kmph.

Gadkari said this at a function of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Here he was talking about issues related to the future of highways and expressways in the country. He said that unnecessary notices should not be sent to drivers in the name of speeding. He also talked about giving necessary instructions to the officials in this matter.

Matter of not sending challan at speed of 120 km per hour on highway

According to Nitin Gadkari, many people driving on expressways are getting challan notices related to speed limit. Keeping this in mind, he has asked officials not to send challan at a speed of 120 km per hour. Apart from this, no action will be taken against any vehicle moving at 20 percent more speed than this limit. But if the speed is more than this then challan should be issued. Accordingly, if the speed limit on an expressway is 120 kmph, then after a 20 percent discount, it makes sense not to issue a challan for a speed of 144 kmph.

However, one thing must be understood here. Gadkari’s statement was regarding the operation of currency on the expressway. This should not be considered as a change in the speed limit of all highways in the country or as an official permission to drive at 144 kmph. Drivers are required to obey the speed limit boards posted on the road and the applicable traffic rules.

Traffic rules will be monitored through an AI system

During the event, Gadkari also talked about promoting AI-based Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to improve traffic management on highways. He appealed to the industries to cooperate in implementing this system.

With the help of this technology, it will be easy to identify the vehicles breaking the rules on the highway. People driving in the wrong lane and not following lane rules will be specially monitored. The network of expressways and highways in the country is expanding rapidly. In such a situation, traffic monitoring and enforcement can be improved with the help of AI.
