The first batch of firemen may get service extension, the central government is considering such a proposal.

Here is a big update for the first batch of Agniveer candidates and their families who have joined Indian Army, Indian Navy and Air Force for 4 years under Agnipath Yojana. The central government is planning to expand the service of the first batch of firefighters. This extension of service will be different from Agniviro, who will be permanentized as a regular in the army after completion of 4 years. Several high-level meetings have been held in Delhi in the last few days regarding this proposal. The first batch of firemen are retiring on 21 November 2026.

Let us understand the whole matter in detail. Let’s find out what has happened with this proposal so far. We will also know how many Agniveeras are to be made permanent. Let’s know what is the update regarding the service extension period.

What is Agneepath Yojana?

Agnipath Yojana was launched on 14 June 2022. Under this, youth between the ages of 17.5 to 21 years are recruited as Agniveer in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force for four years. Agniveer gets salary and other benefits every month during four years of service. On completion of the service, they will receive around Rs. 11.71 lakh unit service fund is provided. However, firefighters who complete service under this scheme do not get pension like regular soldiers.

25% of Agniveer will be permanent, 75% will retire

According to the rules of Agneepath Yojana, a maximum of 25 per cent firemen from each batch can be inducted into the regular cadre after completing four years of service. For this, the organization’s performance, qualifications, requirements and relevant Army policies are kept in mind.

The rule is to release the remaining 75 percent of firefighters from service after four years. Arrangements have been made to provide them with assistance for future employment and other opportunities with service funding. Last month, the Indian Air Force decided to induct 712 of the 2,850 soldiers of its 1st Agnivir Air Batch into regular service.

First batch retiring on 21st November, decision before that

The first batch of firemen recruited under the Agnipath scheme is retiring on 21st November. In such a situation, the decision to give them a possible extension of service is considered important. If the service extension proposal is approved, the future of soldiers recruited under the Agneepath scheme and the army’s human resource policy may see an important change. However, no official decision has been taken regarding this yet. It is believed that a decision on the extension of the service may be taken before November 21.

How much service extension will you get?

No official decision has been taken on the proposal to extend the service of firefighters. It is not yet clear how long the service extension will be, if approved, and which firefighters will benefit.
