Electric SUVs are steadily increasing in popularity in the Indian market. Now customers are not limited to small electric cars, but are also showing interest in large family SUVs. Keeping this in mind, Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the electric avatar of its popular SUV Safari. According to reports, the Tata Safari EV could be launched in January 2027. It could top the company’s range of electric cars. However, the company has not yet given any official information about its launch and features.
Safari is known for its three-row seating and spacious cabin. It is expected that the company will retain this identity in the electric model as well. The new SUV could compete with electric vehicles like the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Battery up to 80 kWh, range over 600Km
The most talked about Tata Safari EV is its battery and range. If reports are to be believed, it could get 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. At the same time, its top variant is likely to have a larger battery of 80 kWh. It is being claimed that it can have a range of over 600 kilometers with a bigger battery. If this happens, this SUV can be a good option for daily use in the city as well as for long journeys.
Will there be an option for RWD and AWD?
The new Safari EV can be built on Tata’s Acti.ev+ platform. The company’s Harrier EV is also built on this platform. It is expected to get both RWD and AWD drivetrain options. In the RWD model, the rear wheels will be powered by an electric motor, while in the AWD variant, motors can be provided at both the front and rear. This is likely to give better grip and performance.
A triple-screen setup can be found in the cabin
The Safari EV can also be quite premium in terms of features. Images surfaced during the testing show that it could get a three-screen dashboard. These may include a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system and a separate display for the front passenger.
Apart from this, features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, premium audio system, wireless charging and connected car technology are expected to be available. It can also offer a 540-degree camera and a digital inside rear-view mirror.
The new electric SUV will be equipped with ADAS
For safety, the Safari EV is likely to get Level 2 ADAS. It may include features like automatic emergency braking, lane assist and adaptive cruise control. The company can also pay special attention to battery safety.
Talking about the price, its ex-showroom price can be between 20 to 23 lakh rupees. At the same time, the top variant with the bigger battery pack and AWD is expected to go up to Rs 30 to 32 lakh.
