The new model of the Volkswagen Virtus, which competes with the Honda City, is out, the sedan is sportier than before.

Volkswagen India has unveiled the exterior of its new Virtus facelift after a long wait. This is the first major design update for the sedan since its launch in June 2022. The company has specifically revealed a glimpse of the GT variant in blue color. The front bumper, grill, alloy wheels and rear design of the new model have been changed. With these updates the car looks more sporty and powerful than before. However, the company is yet to share information about its cabin and all the features.

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift: What’s Changed in Design?

The biggest change is seen in the front look of the new Virtus. It has been given a new bumper, with a wider grill at the bottom. The inside of the grill has a diamond shape design, which gives the car a slightly different and sporty look. There is black trim on either side of the bumper, while there is a thin glossy strip at the bottom.

The upper grille features horizontal design elements, which connect both the headlights. Separate LED daytime running lights are available in the headlights. However, there is no connected LED light strip across the width at the front.

If seen from the side, the old design of the car and its shape have been kept as before. It also has pull type door handles available. The GT variant gets black ORVM housing with black alloy wheels and blue exterior. A red GT badge is also visible on the front fender. Apart from this, red front brake calipers enhance the sporty look of the car. The company is yet to reveal the official name of this blue color and the rest of the color options.

New changes will also be available in the rear

The rear design of the car features a black boot-lip spoiler and a new lower bumper. A triangular design can be seen in the bumper. It has separate tail-lamp units on both sides and no light bar at the rear. ‘VIRTUS’ is written in large letters below the number plate, while a red GT badge is found on the right side of the boot.

A camera-like module has also been spotted below the car’s ORVM. Given the front and rear cameras, it is expected that the new Virtus could get a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

What will be new in the engine and gearbox?

Volkswagen is yet to release pictures of the car’s cabin. In such a situation, discussions about getting a bigger digital instrument cluster and new features have not been supported yet.

In terms of engines, the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines may continue. According to reports, the 6-speed automatic gearbox available with the 1.0-litre engine may be replaced with a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The Volkswagen Virtus facelift is expected to be launched in December 2026.
