Cherry Crossed ET8 REEV: There is a huge demand for electric cars in the Indian automobile market these days. But there is always a fear in the minds of customers regarding the range. To overcome this fear, the major Chinese car manufacturer Chery is going to enter India with new technology. Chery has been patenting many of its cars in India for some time now. Chery’s premium brand Exeed has also filed a patent for its new car ET8 REEV in India. According to a CarWale report, the company has the second Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) patent in India. Earlier, the patent of Exceed EX7 was also revealed.

The series tension will completely end

The biggest highlight of this new car is its driving range. In the Oceed ET8 REEV, customers will not need to search for charging stations frequently. According to reports, the car can run up to 200 kilometers on battery power alone. But when its fuel tank is full and the battery is fully charged, its combined range reaches more than 1300 kilometers. The company’s other REEV models in the Chinese market also offer a similar range. This series could prove to be a big game-changer for a country as large as India.

Unique battery charging system

It is also very interesting to understand how REEV technology works. In fact, the Exceed ET8 is expected to get an LFP battery with an electric motor with a capacity of around 40kWh. Along with this, the car will have a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a generator motor. The peculiarity of this technology is that the petrol engine does not turn the wheels of the car directly. Its job is only to charge the battery like a generator. The wheels of the car rotate entirely with the help of an electric motor. This gives excellent mileage.

Premium feel in design, robust look

In terms of appearance, this car is no less. The Exceed ET8 has been given a boxy design, giving it a very muscular look on the road. Its design is similar to the company’s full-electric car ET9. Both the cars were unveiled to the world for the first time during the Exceed Brand Day held on 22 December 2025 in China. The car also has a special rear-hinge setup for the rear doors, which makes its design language very appealing.

When will it enter the Indian market?

Filing a patent does not mean that the car is going to be launched tomorrow. But it shows that the company is very serious about the Indian market. It is believed that Chery may start its operations in India through a partnership with JSW Motors. Testing of several sub-brand cars of the company is going on in India. From this it can be inferred that a large range of hybrid models are being prepared for India. The launch timeline of Exceed ET8 REEV has not been officially announced yet. Given the current situation, the chances of this car being launched in 2026 are very slim, but it can definitely be seen running on Indian roads in the near future.
