Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has ended his three-year association with English county side Northamptonshire. The 36-year-old shared an emotional farewell message after playing his final 2026 County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord’s.
Chahal thanked Northamptonshire for the support and memories he collected during his time with the club. He also reflected on the strong bond he developed with the team despite spending the season away from India.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s Northamptonshire Journey Ends
Chahal first joined Northamptonshire during the 2024 season and subsequently returned for the 2025 and 2026 campaigns. His three consecutive summers with the club made him a familiar figure in the county setup.
His final appearance came at Lord’s against Middlesex. After the game, Chahal posted a farewell message that focused on his time with Northamptonshire and the relationships he built during his spell with the club.
The Indian spinner also received a guard of honour from his teammates during his final appearance, marking the end of his latest county chapter.
Strong Performance for Northamptonshire in 2026
Chahal remained an important part of Northamptonshire’s bowling attack during the 2026 season. In the County Championship, he took 21 wickets in five matches at an average of 16.14.
One of his standout performances came against Durham, where he claimed nine wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. He also produced another four-wicket haul against Worcestershire.
His performances were not limited to red-ball cricket. During the One-Day Cup, Chahal picked up 15 wickets in seven matches and finished among the leading wicket-takers in the competition.

Chahal’s farewell attracted additional attention because he had posted photographs from Lord’s several days earlier with the caption “The Last Dance.” The post led to speculation among fans about whether he was considering retirement.
However, his latest message was specifically about the end of his association with Northamptonshire. He has not announced his retirement from competitive cricket, and the farewell post should not be treated as a retirement confirmation.
Chahal Continues His Cricket Career
