Hamam-al-Hamami, the Omani pilot who carried out the incident on the flydubai flight, was prosecuted against his own country. He was fired. The main reason behind this is their interest in extremist ideology. He also occasionally followed extremist websites, which led to Oman’s national airlines showing him a way out.
A diplomatic source with knowledge of the matter told the media that he was removed from training due to his suspicious activities. In such a situation, a serious question arises as to why UAE Airlines showed mercy to Hammami? Was his background checked properly before giving him such a huge responsibility? The answer to this incident is that flydubai failed to properly understand the history of the dubious Hammam-al-Hammami. According to the Israeli official, Hammami worked at Flydubai for only eight months.
Several Israeli agencies are investigating
Questions are being raised in front of the world that how an Omani citizen was allowed to work as a pilot in a flight to Tel Aviv? While Oman does not recognize Israel. “Several Israeli agencies, including the Shin Bet, the Mossad, the Army and the Ministry of Transport, are investigating how the Omani pilot became part of the flight crew,” an Israeli official said in a media statement.
Israeli media quoted an Emirati source as saying that leaflets, books and pro-Palestinian items with the slogan ‘Free Palestine’ were found in the luggage of the Omani co-pilot. According to Israeli media, the pilot often expressed support for the Palestinians and hatred of Israel. The report said that a thorough investigation is underway into his alleged radicalism and suspected links to terrorism.
No diplomatic relations, still allowed to fly
Meanwhile, The Jerusalem Post, citing people connected to the investigation, said the Omani co-pilot did not hold any other citizenship. The report also questioned how a citizen of a country that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel was allowed to fly on this route.
How he passed the screening is under investigation
Reports say flydubai hired al-Hammami when he moved there, but they failed to properly check his employment history or explore the restrictions imposed on him in Oman.
An official UAE-led investigation is still trying to determine how he passed the screening and how he was deployed on the sensitive route.
