Aprilia has launched the SXR GT range in India, re-upgrading the premium maxi-scooter segment with an updated engine and bigger wheels. The new line-up includes the SXR GT 125 hp-e (Rs 1.11 lakh) and the SXR GT 175 hp-e (Rs 1.31 lakh, ex-showroom).

This launch comes after the SXR 125 and SXR 160 models were quietly discontinued in May. Instead of introducing a completely new scooter, Aprilia has reworked the SXR formula based on the new engine already used in the SR 125 and SR 175. Its styling remains the same, with a wide front apron, wide seat and maxi-scooter-like features.

Aprilia SXR GT 125, 175 engine

The SXR GT 125 is powered by a 124.5cc single-cylinder engine that generates 10.6 hp at 7,400 rpm and 10.4 Nm of torque at 6,200 rpm. The more powerful SXR GT 175 has a 174.7cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 13.3 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.1 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Both engines meet BS6 OBD-II Stage B standards and are compatible with E20 petrol.

Both variants get updated 14-inch wheels. This will improve stability on bumpy roads and allow higher speeds in urban areas compared to scooters with smaller wheels. There are many differences between the two models. The SXR GT 175 gets a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, which allows call and music control as well as turn-by-turn navigation. It also gets revised exhaust end pipe with handlebar controls, single-channel ABS and heat shield. The SXR GT 125 has a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster and relies on Combined Braking System (CBS) instead of ABS.

The Bullet-Hunter continued to shine, with sales touching 1.34 lakh in September
