If you are planning to buy a Mahindra SUV then there is an important update for you. The company is once again considering increasing the prices of its SUV range. If the decision goes in favor of the price hike, consumers may have to shell out more than before to buy SUVs like the Thar, Scorpio and XUV 7XO.

Mahindra Automotive President and CEO Nalinikant Gollagunta told PTI in an interview that the company may take a decision on the price hike in the next few weeks. The main reason for this is the recent rise in commodity prices i.e. raw materials.

The price has tripled this year

Mahindra has hiked prices three times in 2026. The company hiked prices in January and April, while SUV prices were hiked by an average of 2.7% in July. In July too, the increase was made in view of rising commodity prices.

Now the company is monitoring whether another increase is needed. According to Gollagunta, a decision on this may be taken in the next two weeks. However, he clarified that it is not yet certain that prices will rise.

Despite being expensive, there is no impact on demand

According to Mahindra, the price hike so far has not had a major impact on customer inquiries and bookings. The company says that even after the last GST cut, the prices are below the old GST levels, so demand in the market is strong.

The company is also expecting good sales from the upcoming festive season. Gollagunta said the GST cut is benefiting despite price hikes and Mahindra’s new and updated models are also helping to maintain consumer interest.

Focus on EVs, not hybrids

Mahindra has also clarified its strategy regarding hybrid cars. Currently, the company wants to maintain its focus on electric vehicles i.e. EVs.

According to Gollagunta, Mahindra believes that the future of the auto sector in India is moving towards EVs. However, if government regulations change in the future, the company has the ability to change its strategy. Currently its main focus is only on EVs.

The production capacity of SUVs and EVs is going to increase

Mahindra is also working on increasing its production capacity. The company currently has a capacity of around 60,000 units per month of ICE i.e. petrol-diesel vehicles, while the capacity of EVs is around 8,000 units per month.

The plan is to increase ICE capacity to 70,000 units and EV capacity to 12,000 units per month by the end of March or early April. It means that the current total capacity will increase from 68,000 units per month to around 84,000 units.

Two major new models are also coming

Mahindra is gearing up for several new updates and launches in the next two quarters. According to the company, around five product refreshes are planned, some of which have already hit the market and two-three more updates are on the way.

Apart from this, two major launches will also be made in the next two quarters. One of these new models will come in the ICE i.e. Petrol-Diesel segment and the other in the EV segment. The company said that this upcoming launch also plays a major role in the new production capacity expansion plan.
