The system of toll collection in the country is now going to be simplified. National Highway Authority of India i.e. NHAI has launched Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system for the first time in Tamil Nadu. The system has been launched at Parnur toll plaza, which is on NH-179B in Tambaram-Tindivanam section.
Vehicles will be able to cross the toll plaza without stopping
The highlight of the MLFF system is that there will be no need to stop the vehicle at the toll plaza. That means the vehicle will continue to move in its lane and the toll process will be completed automatically.
Technologies like Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and FASTag will be used for this. The camera will recognize the vehicle number, while the toll amount will be deducted automatically through FASTag. This will reduce the hassle of standing in long queues and stopping vehicles at toll plazas.
It will save both traffic jams and time
According to NHAI, the introduction of MLFF system can reduce vehicular congestion at toll plazas. Trains will not have to stop frequently, thereby reducing travel time. Fuel savings can also result from the need to stop and start the vehicle less often. This will also help in reducing the pollution from vehicles on the roads. This system will also reduce human intervention in toll collection. With this, toll collection will become faster and transparent.
MLFF has already started in many places
NHAI is gradually implementing this system on various national highways of the country. MLFF system has been started at eighty-four toll plazas of Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat. Apart from this, the system has also been installed at Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on UER-II in Delhi-NCR and Shahjahanpur, Daulatpura and Manoharpura toll plazas on Delhi-Jaipur NH-48 in Rajasthan. Gharaunda Toll Plaza on NH-44 in Panipat-Jalandhar section of Haryana has also been connected to the MLFF system.
It is important to maintain balance in FASTag
If you are going to pass through the MLFF toll plaza, your FASTag must be active and have sufficient balance. If there is no money in FASTag or it is not working, you can get an electronic notice i.e. e-notice. NHAI says this system can also reduce the cost of building and running toll plazas. Also the entire toll collection system will work faster and better.
In the future, the MLFF system will also be implemented on other national highways of the country in a phased manner. Its aim is to provide easy and fast travel to people without stopping on highways.
