Will AI take away your job or open new doors? Which skills will be useful in future

You must have heard the saying that if you want to keep up with the times, you have to keep updating yourself. This adage fits perfectly in today’s age of AI. In fact, there are many fields where people have lost their jobs due to AI, including IT, e-commerce, data entry, back office. In the recent past, even a big company like Microsoft had given people a plan to leave their jobs voluntarily.

According to a report, Microsoft is not the only company that has cut jobs due to the increased use of AI in operations. Apart from this, there are many other companies that have shown their employees the exit door. So now the question is, what skills should you have to advance your career?

Will AI become a weapon?

It’s not that AI is just taking away jobs, but if you develop those skills you can get a multi-crore package. Recently, AI company Claude AI had a vacancy on LinkedIn. The package was in crores. There are many fields where employment opportunities are increasing due to AI. Let us tell you in detail how on one hand AI is taking away jobs and on the other hand it is emerging as the biggest weapon for people.

Why are jobs being lost?

In fact, artificial intelligence i.e. AI is no longer limited to technology companies. Its use is also increasing in sectors such as banking, media, marketing, customer service, education and automobiles. And the biggest thing is that with the help of AI, companies can do more work in less time, analyze data and automate many such tasks, which used to take up a lot of employees’ time. Due to which people are either losing their jobs or getting trapped. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned that by 2030, AI could eliminate nearly half of entry-level white-collar jobs. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has also said that if governments don’t make the right policies, the number of jobs could fall drastically in the next decade.

The way of working has to change

In this era of AI, you have to change your way of working and also learn new skills. According to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Jobs report, by 2030, 170 million new jobs are expected to be created by combining existing and new jobs and 9.2 million existing jobs are expected to be displaced. According to the report, the difference between the two amounts to a net addition of 7.8 crore jobs. This means that even after 9.2 crore jobs are displaced, 7.8 crore jobs will remain available in the market. According to the WEF report, in many jobs, some tasks can be automated, while others will require human expertise. Additionally, new opportunities can also arise for those who understand and use AI properly.

Which sectors are most at risk of losing jobs?

Data entry and back office – Tasks like data entry, extracting information from documents, updating records and preparing general reports can be done quickly with AI tools. This may change the role of employees who only perform manual entry in these tasks.

Customer service – Chatbots and AI voice assistants can answer common customer questions. Tasks like reporting order status, registering common complaints and providing basic information can be automated. That is why the fastest change is seen here.

Accounting and Finance Operations – Tasks such as invoice processing, expense classification, general financial reports and data matching may be affected by automation but those who are masters of the tax field will not be affected. Because AI can make complex tax-related decisions difficult.

Will jobs really disappear or will work patterns change?

It is not at all that AI will make all jobs disappear, just the way work will change. According to a study by the International Labor Organization (ILO), in most occupations exposed to generative AI, the nature of work changes rather than eliminating jobs entirely. Research from the London School of Economics reviewed 74 studies related to AI and employment. This makes it clear that there is no fixed figure of how many jobs will be lost due to AI.

Employment opportunities will be available in these sectors

On the one hand, jobs are being lost or may be lost in many sectors due to AI, on the other hand, there are many sectors where employment opportunities are likely to increase. These include AI and machine learning, data analytics, cyber security, AI implementation and automation. At the same time, AI will not have the same impact on people working in fields like marketing, sales, finance as it will on engineers and others.

Will AI learners get jobs easily?

According to LinkedIn’s 2026 report, members who have registered AI literacy skills on the LinkedIn platform are 78% more likely to be hired compared to those who do not list such skills in their profile. This is a relationship based on LinkedIn’s own data. Meaning, if you know how to better use AI for your work, your chances of getting the job are higher. The question now is whether to strengthen our existing skills, develop understanding of AI tools and learn new skills according to changing needs. If you also want to walk shoulder to shoulder with time. So you have to learn this new method and use it properly in whatever work you are doing so you can move ahead.
