The countdown has begun for the release of the first batch of Agniveers recruited into the Indian Army for four years under the Agneepath Yojana. 75 percent of the candidates recruited under the Agneepath scheme in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force are due to end their service after 4 years, with the first batch coming out on November 21. 25 percent candidates i.e. Agniveer will be made permanent in the army. The first batch of Agniveer will roll out of the Indian Navy on 21 November 2026. This means that the services of 75 percent of the candidates recruited in the first batch will be terminated. So only 25 percent candidates will be made permanent. However, the three armies are considering increasing the retention rate to make Agniveer permanent, under which a proposal will be sent to the government after the first batch emerges from the three armies.

What benefits will retiring firefighters get?

On completion of four years, the outgoing firemen will be paid around Rs. One-time service fund package of 10.04 lakhs will be available. This amount will be completely tax free. This includes the firefighter’s own contribution, the government’s equal share and interest during the period of service. Apart from this, the ex-firefighter also gets an insurance worth Rs 48 lakh and a skill certificate, which can be useful in getting a job in the future. There will be no medical and canteen facilities.

50 percent reservation in CAPF and Assam Rifles, test relaxation

To provide government opportunities to ex-firefighters, reservation in paramilitary forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP i.e. CAPF and Assam Rifles has been provided under which 50 per cent reservation has been made in Assam for Constable (General Duty) and Rifles and Rifleman posts. A new category called Purva Agniveer has been created for recruitment in these security forces.

Exemption from PST, PET and Written Exam

Ex-firemen will also be exempted from physical standards test (PST), physical efficiency test (PET) and written examination in CAPF and Assam Rifles recruitment. This relaxation is for the post of Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman.

Reservation and Age Relaxation in States

At the same time, many state governments have also made various announcements to provide government job opportunities to ex-firefighters, under which 10 to 20 percent are reserved for various posts in government jobs. Hence relaxation of age limit rule from 5 to 3 years will be given. Meaning, Ex-Agnveer candidates will have 3 years more time than general candidates to apply for government jobs. First batch will get relaxation of 5 years. Many states including UP, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh have announced this.
