The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has dismissed Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoism, accused of sexual harassment. An internal committee was constituted by the university to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the professor. An internal committee submitted a report after an inquiry, in which the committee recommended strict action against the professor. Based on the committee’s report and the prescribed procedure, the JNU administration has announced the order of dismissal.
JNU Vice Chancellor Shantishri Dhulipudi Pandit has issued an order to dismiss the professor on 9 October 2026. According to the order, the dismissal will take effect with immediate effect. Come on, let’s find out what the whole matter is.
10 students complained against the professor
In September, a JNU professor was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by 10 students. The complaint on behalf of the students was given to the Internal Grievance Committee. The complaint comes after the first complaint against the professor was received in August.
Complaints included allegations of inappropriate behavior by professors and calling students offensive. Prosecutors alleged that the professor behaved inappropriately. In some complaints, professors were accused of inviting students to meet at their campus residences or for other activities and engaging in inappropriate behavior there.
The ICC was investigating
Some students in the complaint also alleged that vulgar and offensive comments were made by the professor during class. After receiving the complaint, ICC started investigating JNU. During the investigation the ICC heard the entire case from the students and collected evidence. Along with this, the professor was also given an opportunity to present his side. After the investigation confirmed allegations of sexual harassment against the professor, the ICC submitted its investigation report to the university administration. Along with the inquiry report, the ICC also made some recommendations, recommending strict action against the professor. Based on which the professor has been dismissed from the job by the university administration.
