More than 10 students protest in 4 months, from street to campus on these demands

After the June 2026 NEET UG paper leak, there was a huge movement of students and candidates in various parts of the country. During June-July in Delhi, students demonstrated at Jantar-Mantar over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET UG examination. In the four months from June to September, more than 10 student movements took place across the country, with students protesting their demands from streets to campuses.

In some places, voices were raised against alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks, while in others there were demonstrations over fee hike, recruitment process, student facilities and campus security. Let’s know where the big demonstrations took place?

Controversy over convocation at Nalsar University

Some students of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad opposed the proposal to invite CJI Suryakant as the chief guest at the convocation. In August, in this regard, the Bar Council of India (BCI) ordered a ban on the admission of 2026 batch students to state bar councils. However, after protests and criticism, the BCI withdrew its decision within hours. The Supreme Court also commented on students’ right to peaceful protest and banned punitive action against students and teachers.

Movement regarding JPSC and JSSC in Jharkhand

In August, Jharkhand students protested against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC-CGL examinations. Clashes broke out between police and protesters during the assembly march in Ranchi. The main demand of the students was cancellation of the exams and a CBI inquiry into the matter. The government agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC preliminary exam and some backlog exams and conduct an inquiry, but students’ demands regarding JSSC-CGL and CBI inquiry continued.

Issue of fees and recruitment of teachers in Prayagraj

Students of Allahabad University protested against fee hike and reduction in seats. The students demanded withdrawal of fee hike and restoration of number of seats. Some students even sat on fast unto death. At the same time, TGT-PGT recruitment candidates demonstrated to demand recruitment based on old rules and exam pattern and one-time relaxation to the affected candidates.

Exhibition to Recruitment of Teacher from KGMU in Lucknow

In September, nursing students of KGMU demonstrated in Lucknow following the death of a student. Students raised questions regarding medical leave, study, duty and hostel arrangements. He put forward several demands, including the resignation of the Dean. Meanwhile, 68,500 aspirants for the recruitment of assistant teachers demonstrated with the demand of appointment. A demonstration of youth was also seen on the issue of unemployment. Earlier, students of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya staged street protests over shortage of teachers and quality of food.

Students Satyagraha regarding TRE-4 in Bihar

The movement of teacher candidates continued since the month of August in Gardanibagh of Patna. Demands like single examination, relaxation of age limit and transparency in examination process were raised in BPSC TRE-4. At the end of September, the students also took out a march. Clashes broke out between police and protesters over barricading and water cannons were used during the demonstration.

Demonstration by IIT Bombay and tribal students in Mumbai

After the death of Sahil Wakode, a student at IIT Bombay, students and his family demanded an inquiry and accountability. On the other hand, tribal students from Maharashtra marched from Nashik to Mumbai. Their demands included better facilities, security and resolution of other problems in tribal hostels and ashram schools.

In August, students demonstrated on campus after the death of IIT Delhi student Hrishikesh Kumar. Students and families demanded an impartial investigation and accountability in the matter. The organization has constituted an external committee to look into the matter. Thus, the issues of these four-month agitations varied, but issues like examination system, recruitment, fees, student facilities, campus security and transparency remained at the center of many demonstrations.

Several demonstrations in Delhi from NEET to women’s safety

During June-July in Delhi, students demonstrated at Jantar-Mantar over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET UG examination. In the last week of September, students of DU and other colleges took out a march on the issue of women’s safety. The protesters demanded better street lights, safer public transport, CCTV and increased police patrols.
