Before understanding this whole matter in detail, let us understand the current criteria for appearing in JEE Advanced. Actually, only the top 2.50 lakh candidates who qualify JEE Main (rule of reservation applies) get a chance to appear in JEE Advanced. As per the current rules, any candidate has only two chances to appear in JEE Advanced. The first chance is counted from the year of passing 12th. That is, candidates have to top score in JEE Main in the same year of passing 12th. After that he can appear in JEE Advanced. After that, next year is highlighted as another chance.
Stress and coaching showed a difference
Candidates have cited stress and differences in coaching to demand three chances in JEE Advanced instead of two. Candidates have stated in their application that preparation is often hampered due to reasons like medical emergencies, family circumstances and exam stress, so the rule of giving two chances to qualify for JEE Advanced is not justified.

Candidates have demanded the Union Ministry of Education and the IIT Council and Joint Admission Board (JAB) to review the existing rules regarding appearing in JEE Advanced. Candidates have demanded that either they should be given 3 chances to appear in JEE Advanced. Or a rule should be made to give 2 chances in 3 years.
