Nana Patekar’s childhood was full of struggles. There was financial shortage in the family. Nana Patekar studied at Samarth School in Mumbai, but continuing his studies was challenging. When Nana Patekar was 13 years old, studying in the 9th standard, his father’s business closed down. The financial condition of the family became dire. In this situation, Nana Patekar started working to support the family and continue his studies. While continuing his studies, he started painting cutouts and movie posters on the streets of Mumbai. By doing this, he completed his schooling from Samarth School in Mumbai.

Continuing his studies, Nana Patekar started working at the age of 13, under which, after school, he would go to the Chunabhatti area of Mumbai and paint film posters, cut-outs and billboards. It was from here that Nana Patekar was inclined towards art. After completing 12th, Nana Patekar did a Diploma in Commercial Arts from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art, a prestigious college in Mumbai. Based on this diploma, he briefly worked as a commercial artist and visualizer in an advertising agency, after which he entered the film world.
