Major changes may be made in the examination system to prevent problems like paper leaks and copying in competitive and recruitment examinations in the country. Nandan Nilekani, former chairman of UIDAI and co-founder of Infosys, has suggested preparing question papers with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) on the exam day. He believes that if a large database of questions is prepared and the final question paper is prepared on the exam day, the chances of incidents like NEET paper leaks can be reduced. Along with this, he has also emphasized on increasing the network of Computer Based Tests (CBT) across the country.

“The question paper should be ready on the day of examination.”

Nandan Nilekani expressed his views on reforming the examination system at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum. He said that financial gain is also a major reason behind question paper leaks. Some people try to earn money by selling question papers. A large pool of questions should be prepared to deal with this problem.

In this system, instead of releasing the question paper before the exam, the final question paper can be prepared on the day of the exam itself. With the help of AI, the option of generating question papers from this store of questions can also be adopted. This can help reduce the risk of question paper leaks before the exam.

The network of computer based examinations will increase

Nilekani also emphasized the need to make all examinations computer-based. He said that for this a strong network of examination centers has to be created across the country. According to him, currently there are around 1.5 lakh centers where students can appear for the exam. This network needs to be further expanded so that more candidates can get the facility to take the exam on computer.

Expecting implementation of reforms from the government

Nilekani, who is chairing the committee formed to reform the examination system, said these problems can be solved through systemic reforms. He also hoped that the Prime Minister would be willing to implement these reforms.
