Indians are divided in America, know how this dividing line looks like in elections

Indian society is divided over the defeat of President Donald Trump’s party in the US mid-term elections. There is a similar dividing line within it, which is also clearly visible in India. For example, the Hindu-Muslim difference, the North-South difference and in some places even the caste difference. Sitting inside India, it seems that all Indians are united by going abroad, that is no longer the case.

This divide is clearly visible between Indians of the 19th century and Indians of the 21st century. At that time Indians were slaves and most of the people who went abroad were those who were taken from India to work in fields and dig mines. They had no human rights. There is also no guarantee of their safety. If they died, they were buried there or burned. There is no cry behind it and no record is available.

Hindu society taboo in America too

But today Indians who go to America, Europe, Canada, Australia etc. for higher education take with them the same middle class rigidity that they have to face in India too. They may go there and try to show themselves civilized, polite and cosmopolitan, but often the caste discrimination and Hindu-Muslim sentiments that prevail within them come out in the open. To show their superiority complex or to show themselves as true Americans, they try to feel more connected to Americans, especially the white community. So they feel somehow connected with Republicans. If Donald Trump had not repeatedly resorted to denigrating Indians in his second term, he might be as much a Republican as the white Tory community.

Muslim hatred of Trump

While it is true that the minority of any country always goes into politics with the party whose policies are liberal and which respects people of different skin color and religion. That is why Indians align themselves with Republicans but feel comfortable with Democrats. Many Indians settled in America quietly admit that even Indians here have developed prejudice against Muslims. That is why Indian Muslims also feel their closeness with the Muslims of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Iran and they completely reject Donald Trump. Donald Trump’s image among Muslims is similar to that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party BJP. It is different that some Muslims are with Modi in India as well as with Trump in America.

Indians of dim origins dislike Republicans.

Neeraj Kumar, who has lived in New York for decades, said Trump supporters were almost as disappointed as India’s fundamentalist Hindus when Mamdani won the New York mayor’s post. This Muslim sect also alienates Indian Hindu settlers in America, Europe, Canada and Australia. Certainly, support for Trump is higher among Hindus who came to the US for medical treatment or business in the IT sector or business. To some extent they dislike the Democrats. But for the sake of a better lifestyle, people who sold their houses and farms in India and sneaked into America via donkey route, lean towards the Democrats. Because they feel that Republicans don’t hate them the way the leaders of the Democratic Party do. As soon as Trump became President again, he insulted such unwanted Indians and drove them away.

There was no Hindu-Muslim distinction among indentured servants.

In contrast, Indian laborers who left India and went abroad in the 19th century had a different situation. He had to leave home to save his life. The then British government had no human rights for them. Because the British did not consider him as a human being. Indians and dogs were the same for him. That is why the Indians whom Gandhi encountered in South Africa had neither Hindu-Muslim sentiment nor caste rigidity nor North-South sentiment. So, when Gandhi spoke of equal human interests in Indian society, all bonded labourers, Hindus and Muslims, were with him. But today, be it America or Europe or Canada, there is no such unity in Indian society. However, somewhere behind it was the partition of India-Pakistan. Due to which Hindus were left behind in every caste.

India-Pakistan partition is the root of all hatred

This partition of India was a cut that separated Hindus from Muslims. And even the Muslim community, whether it lives in India or Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran or Afghanistan, also feels a deep connection with the people of its religion. Even today Hindus in Mauritius, Fiji and Guyana cannot maintain the same distance from Muslims. Hindus of Nepal also have no hatred towards Muslims. Neither do the Muslims feel any conflict with the Hindus there. This is not the case only among Hindus. Sardar Gurwinder Singh of Texas says that the Indian Muslim here does not show the same openness towards the Sikh community as he feels towards the Pakistani or Bangladeshi Muslim. This hatred is two-way. Only Indian Hindus in America are happy when Trump speaks openly about Al Saeed.

Trump’s hateful statement about Saeed

A scientist working in Boston Dr. Mahendra Singh says that because most highly educated Hindus came to America from India, they initially tried to distance themselves from the black community and Muslims in an attempt to present themselves as more American than white Americans. But white Republicans continued to think of him as brown, even though Indian Hindus always leaned Republican. Democrats follow a relatively liberal policy of keeping America’s doors open to people from abroad. But they are equally generous to immigrants from Muslim countries. And this thing irritates the Indian Hindus here. A recent example of this is Abdul Rahman Muhammad Al Said, who has been elected as a senator from Michigan in the midterm elections. He destroyed the Republican stronghold. Trump has called Al Saeed a jihadist and supporter of terrorism.

The votes of the staunch Hindu community also went to the Democrats.

In a way, this statement of Trump brought peace to the minds of Indian Hindus. But the Muslim community (no matter what country it is from) is crazy about this American Muslim from Egypt. It is not that all Hindus are Muslim haters. But most insiders don’t like Muslims. Donald Trump is also a player. Sometimes he loves the mind of Hindus and sometimes invites Pakistan Army Chief Munir to the White House dinner. They condemn India during Operation Sindoor or impose 100 percent tariff on India for importing oil from Russia. For this reason, Indian Hindus also voted for Democrats in the USA during these midterms, albeit reluctantly. According to Charan Singh of New Jersey, this time Indian Hindu immigrant voters voted openly for Democrats versus Republicans. This is a new trend.

Indians are divided

Researching cancer in East West, Dr. Deepak Mashal says that Hindu Indians settled in America today have accepted all the prejudices they have received in India for the last 12 years. He feels alienated from Muslims and is obsessed with his caste and appearance. Interestingly, he interacts equally with the Christian settlers of India but does not have the same connection with the Muslim community or the oppressed Hindus of India who settled in America. This division does not allow Indians to become a major power here. Atul says that Muslims from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are in small numbers here. Most Muslims are from Gulf countries or Arab or African. That is why Indian Muslims also show solidarity with their own Muslims but not with Hindus.

It is good for India that Trump weakens.

Despite all this, Trump has now weakened in the US Congress for Indians. Now they cannot get their policy passed. Whether they keep vetoing or writing comments on their truth social. They can only express laughter. Even as Trump weakens in Congress, Iran has opened the Strait of Hormuz to India, China and Qatar. This is a matter of happiness for the Modi government. This matter also makes the Indians settled in America happy. So, be that as it may, Trump’s weakening is a joy for Indians.
