Royal Enfield’s new Himalayan 440 has received better than expected response from customers. Seeing the huge demand for the bike, the company has stopped its booking for now. According to the company, the bookings are so high that the orders for the next six months have been completed. Now Royal Enfield is working on increasing production.

The company says that the decision to stop new bookings for a while has been taken so that existing customers can be delivered on time. Bookings for Himalayan 440 will be resumed once the production ramps up. Existing customers will also be given information regarding the delivery of their bikes.

The Himalayan 440 was launched this month at Royal Enfield’s first ever Himalayan Base Camp event in Ladakh. According to the company, the demand for the bike has been much higher than its initial estimates.

The Himalayan brand is completing 10 years

The success of the Himalayan 440 is also special for Royal Enfield as the Himalayan name completes 10 years in the market. The company started it as an adventure bike, but over time it became one of Royal Enfield’s most recognizable models.

According to the company, the total worldwide sales of the Himalayan brand have crossed 3.2 lakh units. This includes the sale of the old Himalayan 411 and the new Himalayan 450.

At the same time, global sales of the Himalayan 450 have also crossed the 1 lakh unit mark. According to the company, it has become the best-selling adventure motorcycle in its segment in markets such as India and Brazil.

What’s so special about the Himalayan 440?

The Himalayan 440 is differentiated from the Himalayan 450. The bike features a round headlamp, high windscreen, straight riding position and 21 inch front and 17 inch rear spoke wheel. It has a seat height of 800 mm and ground clearance of 220 mm. This bike has a 15 liter fuel tank. It weighs 199 kg with 90 percent fuel and oil.

443cc engine and 6-speed gearbox

The Himalayan 440 has a 443cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This engine generates 25.4 bhp of power and 34 Nm of torque. According to the company, there is an increase of about 4.5 percent in power and 6.5 percent in torque compared to the old Himalayan 411. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. While riding, this engine feels easy to use in the city and delivers enough torque in the low and mid range. The bike can maintain a speed of around 120 kmph, but cruising feels more comfortable around 100 kmph. A mileage of around 30 kmpl was achieved during the test ride.

Features and Price

The Himalayan 440 features LED lighting, a digital-analogue instrument cluster, Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation pod and a USB Type-C charging port. Compared to the Himalayan 450, its feature package is simpler. It lacks a full-color TFT screen, riding modes and traction control. Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 has a starting ex-showroom price of ₹2.29 lakh.
