The habit of viewing the feed first after opening Facebook may change in the future. Meta is preparing to test a new video-first experience on its platform. Under this, some selected users can directly watch full-screen videos as soon as they open the app. However, this change will not apply to all users yet.

According to Meta, testing will begin later this year and will involve a limited number of users in the initial phase. The company believes that people are now choosing to watch more visual and immersive content on Facebook. The role of video on the platform is also constantly increasing. Here, through videos, people not only watch content, but also interact, join communities and buy products.

A full-screen video can start as soon as the app opens

According to Facebook head Tom Ellison, Meta is creating a new experience for users who want to watch more videos on the platform. For users included in the new test, full-screen videos can appear as soon as the app is launched.

However, this does not mean that Facebook’s existing feed will be completely eliminated. The classic feed will remain in place and accessible as a separate second tab. This means that users who are part of the test will be able to switch between the video experience and the old feed as per their preference. This change is clear that Meta is moving towards giving more importance to videos on Facebook than ever before.

Change even after 10 years of marketplace

Facebook’s experiment comes at a time when it has been 10 years since the launch of the company’s marketplace. According to Tom Ellison, the idea for the marketplace came from a behavior the company noticed that people were already buying and selling goods through Facebook groups. Now to make the marketplace more useful, Meta is also testing a separate app for sellers.

A new application is being developed for sellers

The new seller app is specially designed for people who regularly sell goods on the marketplace. Its purpose is to facilitate the management of various sales related functions at a single place. The app will have an option to generate product listings with the help of AI. Apart from this, tools like unified inbox, inventory management and sales related performance insights can also be provided.

The Seller app will connect to Facebook. This means sellers will be able to maintain access to marketplace buyers and their communities. Meta’s focus is specifically on simplifying the process for sellers who list a large number of products. In this way, on the one hand, preparations are underway to change the experience of watching videos on Facebook, on the other hand, new tools are also being added for sellers of goods through the marketplace.
