Tata Electronics: India is now becoming a major hub for iPhone manufacturing across the globe. Tata Electronics, the country’s largest indigenous iPhone contract manufacturer, has achieved a major milestone in the financial year 2026 (FY26). The company’s iPhone exports are Rs. 1 lakh crore has been reached. This is an increase of 29 percent compared to last year. The latest documents submitted to the Registrar of Companies (ROC) show just how strong the Tata group’s role has become in Apple’s global supply chain. Apple is now rapidly expanding its manufacturing outside of China, which is directly benefiting India.
Indian iPhone boom from America to Taiwan
The three separate companies of Tata Electronics combined in FY26 at Rs. 99,128 crores has been registered as a total export revenue. These iPhones made in India are mostly shipped to America, Taiwan and Ireland. Let us tell you that Apple’s European headquarters is in Ireland. If we look at the figures, these three units together will give Taiwan Rs. 47,930 crore, in America Rs. 38,508 crore and in Ireland Rs. iPhones worth 11,980 crores have been exported.
Exports account for around 76 percent of the company’s total production revenue. According to Mohit Yadav, founder of business intelligence firm AltInfo, Tata Electronics’ consolidated revenue from the US market has grown by about 40 percent. This is a clear indication that India is now becoming a very important manufacturing base to meet the needs of the American market.
Why is it difficult to compare the strength of the three companies with the old figures?
There are three main companies behind this huge Tata export. The first is Tata Electronics itself. Another company is Tata Electronics System Solutions, formerly a business of Wistron, which was bought by the Tata Group. The third company is Tata Electronics Products and Solutions (formerly Pegatron Technology India). It is a joint venture, with Tata Electronics holding 60 percent and Taiwan’s Pegatron 40 percent.
In FY25, these three companies combined to generate Rs. 76,953 crores were exported. However, FY25 figures cannot be directly compared with FY26. This is because Wistron’s business (Tata Electronics System Solutions) reported financial statements for 15 months instead of 12 months in FY25. Mohit Yadav says that if the comparison is made on a 12-month basis, the actual increase in exports will be much higher than the current figure. Apart from this, the rupee depreciated by around 10 percent to 85.60 to 94.80 against the dollar during FY26. Analysts believe that this depreciation of the rupee has also helped to increase the total value of exports.
Why did the company’s losses increase amid record earnings?
On one hand, new records have been created in exports, on the other hand, the loss of the company has also increased rapidly. Tata Electronics’ total operating income grew 96 percent in FY26 to Rs. 1,29,902 crores. But with this the total net loss of the company also increased to Rs. 1,611 crores. In the last financial year i.e. FY25, this loss was only Rs 69 crore.
Apart from this, another shocking figure is related to the cost of foreign exchange. The total foreign exchange income of the three companies is Rs. 1,29,641 crore, which is much higher than their foreign exchange earnings. This shows that India is still heavily dependent on parts and components imported from abroad to make iPhones. However, these costs may also be due to any license fees or other foreign charges, the full details of which are not provided in the company’s filings.
Scam sales even in the local market
Tata Electronics has performed well not only in foreign countries but also in the domestic market of India. In FY26, the company’s domestic sales grew by 46 percent to Rs. 30,182 crore has been done. According to an industry official, this includes products that have been supplied to Apple’s local sales and service unit in India, i.e. ‘Apple India’. Apple India itself in FY26 was Rs. 1,03,853 crore with strong sales and Rs. 5,311 crore in net profit.
