The demand for electric cars and scooters in India is growing rapidly. People are opting for electric vehicles to avoid the cost of petrol and diesel and reduce pollution. However, the main reason for the high cost of these vehicles is their expensive batteries. In such a situation, it is very important to take proper care of the battery.
Many times the battery capacity of an electric vehicle begins to decrease due to small mistakes made by people. Due to this, the range of the vehicle i.e. the distance it can travel on a single charge can also be reduced. If you want your EV battery to perform well for a long time, keep these 5 things in mind when charging.
1. Charge the battery to 100% daily
Electric vehicle batteries do not need to be charged to 100% every day. With many batteries, keeping them fully charged for long periods of time can affect their health. Therefore, it may be useful to keep the battery charged to around 80% for daily use. However, the exact charging limit depends on the vehicle and battery type. The battery can be charged to 100% as needed before going on a long journey.
2. Discharging the battery to 0% repeatedly
It is also not a good habit to use the battery until it is completely discharged. Frequent driving on a very low charge can stress the battery. So it is better to plan charging when the battery level is around 20%. With the help of this, the battery can be saved from repeated use in a very low charge.
3. Using a fast charger every time
Fast charger helps to charge the battery in less time. But frequent fast charging can cause the battery to overheat and affect its capacity in the long run. So, for daily charging, using the normal charger provided with the vehicle can be a good option. Use fast charging when needed and follow the company’s instructions.
4. Charging immediately after a long journey
Battery temperature may rise after long distance travel or continuous driving. In such a situation, instead of starting charging immediately, it may be useful to give the vehicle some time. However, many electric vehicles have a system to control the temperature of the battery. So, before charging, please read the instructions given in the vehicle manual.
5. Charging the car in bright sunlight
Heat and strong sunlight can also affect electric vehicle batteries. If you charge the vehicle in a very hot location, the temperature of the battery may rise. To avoid this, charge the vehicle in a shady and ventilated place. If possible, choose a location out of direct sunlight. This can help protect the battery from overheating.
