In the festive season, the Indian stock market has given investors a great Diwali gift. As soon as the market opened on the morning of 5th November, Dalal Street came alive. Despite mixed signals from overseas markets, the domestic market left it all behind and got off to a tumultuous start. As soon as the starting bell rang, the main indicators raced at rocket speed. There was a huge rush of buyers in the opening trading itself, due to which investors’ pockets were filled with profits within minutes.
Sensex and Nifty start explosively
Both the major market indices saw a big jump this morning. The BSE Sensex opened at 78,689.83, a huge jump of 1,388.43 points or 1.80 percent. On the other hand, NSE Nifty also showed its full strength. The Nifty opened up 382.15 points or 1.59 percent at 24,342.75. Thus, the Nifty easily crossed the important level of 24,300 as soon as it opened. Talking about the overall market environment, around 2099 shares saw a gain today. In comparison, only 397 stocks fell, while 107 stocks remained unchanged.
From indigo to Asian paints, the price jumps to a bumper
In today’s trading, stocks of several major companies cheered investors. InterGlobe Aviation (Indigo), Shriram Finance, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance were among the top gainers on the Nifty. In particular, the aviation sector directly benefited from the massive fall in crude oil prices. For this reason Indigo emerged as the best performing stock today. Apart from this, shares of Maruti, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) also registered strong gains of 3 to 4 percent.
Why did the share of Bharti Airtel lag behind?
The highlight of today’s opening trade was that barring Bharti Airtel, all other Sensex stocks were trading in the green. Indeed, Bharti Airtel’s second quarter (Q2) results are due today. Ahead of these results, investors were a bit cautious, causing Airtel shares to fall slightly. If we talk about Nifty losses, along with Bharti Airtel, Dr. Shares of Reddy’s Labs, Cipla and Coal India also saw early pressure.
