Losing a job is a big blow for anyone. Suddenly a person loses his day job and has to start looking for a new job. But Australian designing company Canva has prepared such a relief package for its employees during layoffs, which is being discussed. The company has decided to lay off 1,271 people, but they will also get to keep their MacBooks, get at least 6 months of salary and use LinkedIn Premium for a year.
Canva is cutting 22 percent of its total workforce. CEO Melanie Perkins has apologized to affected employees, calling the decision extremely difficult for the company.
1,271 employees are operating in 37 countries
Canva employs more than 5,700 people in 37 countries. This includes employees of India. However, the company has not yet disclosed which country or team is most affected by the layoffs. In a message to employees, Melanie Perkins said she regrets the inconvenience this decision will cause. He also clarified that layoffs do not mean that employees’ abilities or their work are less important.
You will get these facilities after leaving the job
Canva will allow affected employees to keep their company MacBooks. Apart from this, one year of LinkedIn Premium subscription will also be available. Facilities such as career coaching, interview preparation and resume enhancement will also be provided to help in finding a new job. The company’s talent acquisition team will assist employees in this task.
Minimum 6 months salary and healthcare
Each affected employee will get at least 6 months salary. This will also include necessary legal fees. This relief will be given to the employees working in different countries. The one-year vesting condition will also be removed for employees who have joined the company in the last one year, so that they can be entitled to their equity.
In countries where Canva provides healthcare, employees will receive benefits for 12 months. Also, employees and their families can avail the Canva Care program for one year.
You can get help to start a business
Canva has also created the Canva Collective Fund. Under this, employees who are starting their own business or working on a local project can get a grant of up to $10,000 (about Rs. 8.9 lakh). In return the company will not take any stake in the business. Interested employees have to submit their information by December 14.
The company will also create an alumni talent directory, which will be shared with investors and industry people. This can help employees find new opportunities. In addition, they will also be given access to Slack and Gmail by the end of this week.
