Shikshamitras in UP will get 6 chances to clear TET, cannot give special TET

Allahabad High Court has given relief to Shikshamitras of Uttar Pradesh. The Allahabad High Court rejected the plea seeking permission to grant special TET to Shikshamitras. However, in its decision, the High Court directed the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to give at least 6 chances to the Shiksha friends of UP to clear the TET till 31 August 2028. It means UPESSC will have to conduct atleast 6 TETs for Shiksha Friends till 31st August, this TET will be 2028 regular.

Let’s know the whole matter in detail. Let us know on which application the Allahabad High Court has given this decision while hearing. We will know what is the matter of organizing 6 TET for Shiksha friends.

The special TET notification was challenged

UPESSC has organized a special TGT for non-TGT teachers and teachers teaching on contract, the notification of which was released on September 2. This notification was challenged in the Allahabad High Court. Petitioner Shiksha Mitras said that he has been teaching for 20 years. Contract teachers are also given an opportunity to participate in Special TET, but they are not given the opportunity. Calling it discrimination, the petition demanded that Shikshamitras should also be given an opportunity to appear in the special TET.

The court did not accept the discrimination, now Shikshamitras will get 6 opportunities

A division bench of Justice Soumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Swarupama Chaturvedi heard this plea of Shiksha Mitra. The Division Bench observed that the service status of teachers and Shikshamitras appointed on regular posts is different. In this case, inclusion of Shiksha Friends in Special TET is not discriminatory.

During the hearing, UPESSC argued that Shiksha Mitra was not a regular teacher. Also, UPESSC said that there were 86 thousand regular teachers in the special TET held on November 3, while the number of Shikshamitras is up to 1 lakh 50 thousand. In this regard, the court directed UPESSC to give 6 chances to Shiksha Mitra to clear TET, which will be given till 31 August 2028.

Two chances of TET every year

The Division Bench in its decision said that Shiksha Mitra should be given 6 chances of TET, which should be given in the years 2026, 2027 and 2028. On this, the Commission said that the next TET is proposed on February 26 and 27. After this, TET will be conducted in June-July 2027 and December-January. Thus, two chances of TET will be given every year. The second TET will be conducted before August 2028.
