Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Reach 26.35 Million as Zelda Anniversary Edition Boosts Momentum

Nintendo’s Switch 2 has surpassed 26.35 million units in worldwide sales, marking another major milestone for the gaming company. The latest financial results show that the console continues to attract players, even as hardware shipments slow compared with its launch period.

According to Nintendo’s financial report covering the six months ended September 30, 2026, the company shipped 6.49 million Switch 2 consoles during the period. This represents a 37.4% decline compared with the same period last year, when the system benefited from its launch momentum.

Despite the slowdown, Nintendo’s overall hardware sales remain strong. The company is now looking toward the holiday shopping season and its upcoming game releases to maintain interest in its latest gaming platform.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game Sales Reach 73.21 Million

While console shipments have moderated, game sales continue to provide strong support for the Switch 2. Nintendo sold 24.49 million games for the platform during the first half of its financial year.

Lifetime software sales have now reached 73.21 million units, highlighting continued demand for Nintendo’s major gaming franchises.

Mario Kart World remains the platform’s best-selling title, with 16.48 million copies sold. Donkey Kong Bananza has also delivered strong results, reaching 5.05 million copies.

Meanwhile, Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Pokémon Pokopia have each recorded sales of 4.04 million units.

Other titles have also contributed to the growing library. Splatoon Raiders has sold 2.42 million copies, while Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave reached 1.34 million. Star Fox has recorded 1.17 million sales.

Zelda Switch 2 Console Edition Adds to Nintendo’s Momentum

Nintendo is also using its popular franchises to strengthen interest in the hardware. The Zelda Switch 2 console, released as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations, gives longtime fans another reason to consider upgrading to the newer system.

The special edition arrives as Nintendo continues expanding its library with established franchises and new releases. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has also recently arrived on Switch 2, receiving positive reviews from players and critics.

Another major release on Nintendo’s schedule is Metroid Ravenous, which is currently planned for January 2027.

These releases could help Nintendo maintain consumer interest as competition in the gaming hardware market continues. The company’s holiday-season performance will also depend on how effectively its upcoming games attract new buyers and encourage existing owners to purchase more titles.

Nintendo Profits Increase Despite Lower Revenue

Nintendo reported net sales of ¥966 billion for the six-month period, representing a 12.1% decline compared with the previous year.

However, the company’s profitability improved significantly. Operating profit increased 49.1% to ¥216.5 billion, while net profit rose 11% to ¥220.9 billion.

Digital sales were another bright spot, climbing 60.5% to ¥249.6 billion. Nintendo’s intellectual property-related business also recorded substantial growth, increasing 87.9% to ¥62.7 billion.

The success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie played an important role in the company’s expanding entertainment and licensing business, demonstrating the growing commercial value of its popular characters beyond video games.

Nintendo Maintains Its 2027 Switch 2 Sales Target

Despite the decline in hardware shipments, Nintendo has maintained its sales forecast for the financial year ending March 2027.

The company continues to expect to sell 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles during the financial year. Its upcoming game releases, established franchises and special-edition hardware are expected to support that target.

With the holiday shopping season approaching, Nintendo will be looking to turn its expanding software lineup into stronger hardware demand. The latest figures show that the Switch 2 has already established a substantial global audience, while its games continue to generate significant sales.
