YouTubers and content creators had fun! Instagram Edits will now also support 4K video, on MacBook

Instagram has launched a desktop version of its video creation and editing app Edits for macOS. Now even Mac users can edit videos on this app with a bigger screen. It offers many such features, which can make video editing easier and better than ever. These include a multi-track timeline, keyframe control, color grading tools, and the ability to use fonts and audio of your choice. The special thing is that users can export videos in quality up to 4K without any watermark and can also post them directly on Instagram. According to the company, Edits has crossed 50 million users within a year of its launch on mobile.

Many new editing tools will be available in the Editing app on Mac.

According to Brett Westervelt, product lead at Edits, the Mac version of the app is specially designed for creators who face many problems while editing videos on smartphones. Working with multiple clips at once and making subtle changes on a small phone screen is not easy. Creators can now edit their videos more easily using the Mac’s larger screen and keyboard and mouse.

It has a multi-track timeline, with which multiple video clips can be worked on simultaneously. Keyframe controls are also available for transitions and other changes. Additionally, the visual waveform of the audio will be visible, allowing creators to make cuts and changes to the video based on the beat of the music. Users can also set keyboard shortcuts of their choice. If desired, shortcuts used in other popular video editing applications can also be imported.

For color grading, it will also have color wheels, log conversion, tone curves and the option to import your own LUTs. With the help of this, the color and look of the video can be changed as per your wish.

You can also use the font and audio of your choice

Creators using Edits on Mac will also have access to Instagram’s licensed and royalty-free audio library. They can also import their custom fonts and audio. The app has the facility to generate automatic captions in multiple languages and the company has not mentioned any fixed limit in this regard.

Videos, other assets and text styles already saved in the mobile app will also sync with the Mac version. This means that users will not need to recreate their old creative resources.

The app also provides an option to add AI agents via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). With their help, some tasks related to video editing can be simplified.

You can post videos directly to Instagram

Instagram has also simplified the process of publishing videos. Users can post videos directly from the app after finishing editing. Information like account tag and location tag can also be added along with it. Support for publishing trial reels is also provided in Edits. For creators sharing the same video across different platforms, it has the option of both vertical and horizontal video formats. Videos can be exported in up to 4K quality without watermarks.

The Edit app is free, but there is a stipulation for Mac users

The desktop version of Edits can be downloaded for free from the Edits website. Currently it is only available for macOS. To run it, a Mac must have an Apple Silicon processor. The company has supported Macs with the M1 chip and later processors. Currently no version of this has been launched for Windows users. Additionally, users must sign in with their Instagram account to sync projects and post videos directly to Instagram.
