So far, countries like the US and China have dominated the artificial intelligence (AI) race, but India is also moving fast in this direction. In this series, three new AI models developed in the country with the help of the IT Ministry of the Central Government and the IndiaAI Mission have been launched. Their names are EKA-1, Dhir 2B and Dhir 5B. Their most special feature is that two of these models can work on smartphones and laptops even without an internet connection. With this, users don’t have to depend on the internet every time to do their work. In addition, it can also help maintain the security of personal information. These models are designed with Indian languages in mind, so that people from different parts of the country can use them.
What is special about EKA-1?
EKA-1 is built by Bengaluru-based startup company Socket Labs. It is the largest and most powerful of the three models. It is specially designed for solving difficult mathematical problems, software coding and logical tasks. It can perceive and respond to multiple tasks simultaneously.
The model has 26.3 billion parameters and has been trained with data from 7.5 trillion tokens. It supports all 22 scheduled languages of India except English. It can also be used in areas like banking, financial services and cyber security.
Dhir 2B and Dhir 5B will work without internet
Dhir 2B and Dhir 5B are developed by ZenteiQ AiTech Innovations. These are smaller models than the EKA-1 and focus on making everyday tasks easier. Both are open source models and can understand 10 Indian languages along with English.
With their help, it can help to find important information in documents, extract important things from them and complete many daily tasks. The special thing is that it can be downloaded in smartphones and laptops and can be used even without internet.
What are the benefits of using offline AI?
Generally, internet is required to use AI tools. But Dhir models will work directly on your device. In such a case, there will be no need to repeatedly send your personal information to an external server for processing. This can help maintain better data security. This model can also prove useful in sectors like defence, government departments and education.
How did the government help?
Building and training an AI model requires a lot of money and computing power. Under the IndiaAI mission, the government provided low-cost computing resources to these startups and also provided financial support for research. With this cooperation, the work of preparing this indigenous AI model can be progressed.
