Apple has launched its contactless payment service Apple Pay in India. For this the company has partnered with Axis Bank. Now users in India can add a credit card to their iPhone and pay by tapping the phone on a PoS machine. It was first launched in the US in September 2014. With its entry in India, Apple Pay is now available in more than 90 countries and territories.
The service works with more than 11,000 banks and network partners worldwide. Currently, only Axis Bank’s Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be used on Apple Pay in India. In due course the company may also include other banks and debit cards.
What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is the company’s digital payment service, which allows users to make payments by tapping their Apple device on a contactless PoS machine. This means that there will be no need to take the physical credit card out of the pocket every time. This also reduces the risk of the card being lost or damaged. In addition, the risk of the card being lost or damaged is also reduced. Additionally, Apple Wallet makes it easy to digitally store and manage multiple cards.
NFC stands for Near Field Communication Technology used for payments in Apple Pay. Payments can be made from iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad at PoS terminals that support NFC. Apple may soon bring Apple Pay support for Mac to India as well.
What devices will Apple Pay work on?
If you have an iPhone XR or newer and iOS 18 or later, you can add an eligible Axis Bank credit card to Apple Wallet. For Apple Watch, Series 6 or later models can use Apple Pay. For this, there must be watchOS 11 or newer software.
The use of Apple Pay is not limited to tapping and paying at shops. Users can also make in-app purchases and payments on the e-commerce platform with their eligible credit cards. Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode is used for payment security.
How to set up Apple Pay on iPhone?
- First unlock your eligible iPhone.
- After this open Wallet app in iPhone.
- Now tap on the plus (+) icon that appears at the top of the screen.
- Select Debit or Credit Card option here.
- Now place your character Axis Bank credit card behind the iPhone so that the card information can be scanned.
- If you want to add the card manually, you can select the Enter Card Details Manually option.
- After this enter your full name, card number, expiry date and security code.
- Now tap on Continue.
- After this, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup of the card.
Once setup is complete, your Axis Bank credit card will be added to Apple Wallet. After this, you can use it to make payments by tapping the iPhone on a PoS terminal with NFC support.
