Buying a car on the occasion of Diwali and Dhanteras is special for many people. Keeping this in mind, automobile companies and dealerships come up with various offers to attract customers. Some places offer discounts of thousands of rupees, while others claim to offer exchange bonuses, corporate discounts and free accessories. At first glance, these offers look very good, but sometimes there are some conditions attached to them, which are not informed to the customer first. In such a situation, if you too are preparing to buy a car or bike this festive season, then surely know some important things.
Don’t buy a used car after seeing a discount.
During festivals, many dealers offer more discounts to clear old stock. Sometimes great offers are available even on vehicles manufactured last year. So, before booking, please check the month and year of manufacture of the vehicle. Don’t buy a used car just because of the big discount. It is also important to compare old and new stock prices.
Don’t let bills go up in the name of free accessories
Many showrooms offer free items like seat covers, floor mats, body covers and mud flaps. But in some cases their cost is added as another charge in the bill. So, ask in advance what things are available without money. Remove unnecessary accessories from the bill.
Compare before buying insurance
It is not necessary to buy insurance only from the dealership. Premiums and features of different companies may vary. So, find the price from other companies as well. Make a decision only after understanding the features like IDV, zero depreciation and add-on cover in the policy.
Don’t lose the value of your old car because of the exchange bonus.
Not every customer gets an exchange bonus on exchanging an old vehicle. This may have conditions related to the age of the vehicle and required documents. Find out the value of your old car in other places too, so you don’t have to sell it low for the sake of a bonus.
Please check the vehicle before delivery
Many people do not check their vehicles properly in the rush for festive deliveries. Avoid doing this. Do PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) before taking delivery. In this, check the vehicle’s body, paint, tires, lights, engine and odometer. Also match the chassis number and engine number with the documents.
Pay only after understanding the EMI and booking terms and conditions.
Don’t take loan immediately after seeing low down payment and small EMI. Often the loan tenure is extended with lower EMIs, leading to higher total interest payments. So, definitely understand the interest rate, processing fee and total loan amount. Also, take the cancellation and refund terms and conditions in writing, before paying the booking amount.
