Hospital Grading: Whenever someone falls ill at home, the biggest concern is which hospital the patient should be taken to. Often people don’t know which hospital is safe. But now the government is going to remove your confusion. The government is taking a big step to improve the healthcare system of the country. NITI Aayog is working on a National Quality Framework, through which all government and private hospitals in the country will be graded. This grading will be based entirely on international standards. It aims to provide accurate information to patients so that they can make better decisions about their treatment.

Transparency will improve the health sector

Until now, patients have no transparent way to measure the quality of hospitals. After this new system is implemented, the grading system will be put in front of everyone. Because of this, hospitals will also be forced to improve their facilities. The new team of NITI Aayog is working fast on this project. The government believes that this transparent and audited system will significantly improve India’s health ecosystem. Along with this, the number of patients coming to India for treatment from abroad will also increase, which will boost medical tourism.

On what criteria will hospitals be tightened?

According to a senior official, the framework is expected to be ready by the end of this year. After this, the process of grading hospitals can start from the next financial year. Recently, NITI Aayog member M. An important meeting with stakeholders was held under the leadership of Srinivas. The criteria on which the hospital should be judged is being determined. This will include important issues like patient safety, medication errors, patient experience after treatment, patient re-admission rate. Besides, critical data like mortality after oncology surgery, patient survival rate after organ transplant will also be made a special part of this grading.

Inspired by the British system

If we talk about the current system, currently private hospitals in India have to follow NABH norms for patient safety. But the problem is that these reports are never made public. Due to which the patients cannot know the actual quality of the hospital. On the other hand, if we talk about the National Health Service of UK (Britain), there is a regular publication of quality indicator report of hospitals. This helps the patients a lot in choosing the right hospital for them. Now preparations are underway to implement this transparent system in India.

Insurance companies will also benefit

Srimoi Chakraborty, Healthcare Sector Leader, EY-Parthenon India, says that the biggest benefit of this standard framework will be the patients. With this, hospitals that are providing truly good quality treatment will be able to differentiate themselves from the crowd. Not only this, health insurance companies can also prepare their new plans based on the results of this grading.
