Option to do MBBS from AFMC Pune
One of the main ways to become a doctor in the Indian Army is to take admission in the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. For this candidates have to give NEET UG exam. Shortlisted candidates have to go through the selection process like screening and interview as per the norms laid down in the admission process. Students selected in AFMC have to follow the terms and conditions of regular service after completing MBBS.
You can apply even after MBBS
Candidates who have done MBBS from a recognized medical college can also apply to become a doctor in the Army. For this requisite educational qualification, internship, age limit and other conditions have to be fulfilled. AFMS recruitment may involve procedures like interview and medical examination for selection. Successful candidates are appointed by Short Service Commission (SSC) as per prescribed rules.
How much do you get paid?
Officers appointed as doctors in the army get various allowances along with their salary. As per the salary details given, the initial basic salary is Rs. 61,300 and Military Service Pay (MSP) Rs. 15,500 is. Apart from this, you can get non-practicing allowance (NPA), dearness allowance and other applicable allowances as per rules. Facilities like government accommodation, medical facilities and canteen are also available as per eligibility and rules.
Promotion and career growth
Doctors in the army get promotion opportunities based on experience and prescribed service rules. Officers can progress from captain to major, lieutenant colonel and colonel. Further promotions are subject to relevant service rules. The rules of service period, retirement and pension of Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission are different.
