A unique paper of IIT Goa final semester exam has been posted on social media platform X by IITian Akash Sampurnanand Pandey. Along with the post, he wrote, “In this era of AI, where everyone is trying to catch copycats, they have made copying redundant. One of the hallmarks of IIT professors is that they always think two steps ahead of others.
For the last hundred years, exams used to test the same thing. Can you answer correctly? This was fine when the answers were not easy to find and were limited to books or your own memory, but not anymore. Any question related to ‘Analog Circuit’ can be answered in just 5 seconds on the AI chat window. Asking someone to remember something old in 2026 is a skill test that has already been rendered useless by machines.
Everyone else is trying to catch fraudsters in the age of AI. It just made cheating pointless. IIT professors have a habit of staying two steps ahead of the room. For a hundred years, exams have tested one thing: whether you can give the right answer. It makes sense when the answers were rare and locked away in textbooks and your own memory. They are not rare anymore. Any answer to any Analog Circuits question is five seconds away in the AI chat window. Testing recall in 2026 is testing a skill that the machine has already rendered useless. So this professor flipped it. The best part – it actually reflects real engineering. In industry, no one gives you a pre-written problem statement. The hardest part is never finding solutions as you grow in your career. It is knowing which questions are worth solving in the first place. And the @IITGoaofficial professor knows it. Checkmate

So, this professor changed the whole approach. The best part is that it is very close to real engineering. Nobody in the industry gives you a pre-written ‘problem statement’. “As you move forward in your career, the hardest part is not finding solutions, but deciding which questions are really worth solving.”
Questions will have to be made as per the semester lecture and answers will have to be given in two hours.
Only two questions are asked in this viral IIT Goa End Semester Paper. In the first question, students are asked to prepare questions of 60 marks based on the number of chapters read in their semester. These questions should reflect your syllabus. The answers of which you have to give in two hours. Do not discuss this with your friends. If a match is found your score may be reduced. 30 marks are to be awarded for the first question (in which questions are to be prepared). In the second question, answers to prepared questions are asked. 40 numbers have been fixed for this.
Why is this paper special?
According to the information, IIT Goa has been preparing this kind of unique paper for the last several years, which helps in developing the understanding of the students. Mainly if we talk about or understand the purpose of this paper, it is the ‘first-principles thinking’ (thinking based on basic principles) of IIT professors, which is based on the thinking of developing students’ understanding. This should not be seen as just a smart way to prevent copying.
