There may be important changes in the recruitment process for candidates preparing to become LT Grade Assistant Teachers in Government Secondary Schools of Uttar Pradesh. The State Secondary Education Department has taken steps towards making Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory in the upcoming recruitment. For this, a proposal to amend the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Education (Trained Graduate Category) Service Rules, 2024 has been sent to the Government. The proposal states that the educational qualification of teachers should be as per the norms prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). This change is being made with the objective of clarifying the rules regarding eligibility and qualification for recruitment.
Amend rules to make TET mandatory
The Department of Secondary Education has made preparations to make TET the necessary qualification for the recruitment of LT Grade Assistant Teachers. Director of Secondary Education Pratap Singh Baghel sent a letter to the government on 14 September 2026 requesting to reconsider the amendment in the rules. Earlier, instructions in this regard were given in a meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary on September 7. The department then prepared a proposal to amend the rules related to the educational qualification of teachers. For this we have to wait for government approval and further process.
Eligibility will be determined as per NCTE rules
According to NCTE’s November 12, 2014 norms, teachers teaching classes six to ten are required to follow prescribed educational qualifications. It includes graduation degree with minimum 50 percent marks in graduation or 45 percent marks in post graduation and B.Ed from a recognized institution. Qualifications include. The Department’s proposal focuses on clarifying recruitment rules in accordance with these standards. This will clarify the educational qualification status of the candidates.
What is lacking in the existing rules?
In the current service manual B.Ed. The qualification is mentioned, but the provisions regarding minimum marks in graduation and post graduation are not clear. For this reason, the rules need to be amended. The proposal also seeks to clarify the provisions regarding the recruitment of teachers teaching classes six to ten.
After the order of the High Court, the proceedings increased
Petitions filed in Allahabad High Court regarding TET and educational qualification in LT grade recruitment. The court directed to clarify the advertisement for the recruitment of class nine and ten teachers. Along with this, the issue of needing to amend the rules to make TET a necessary qualification was also raised. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is recruiting LT Grade Assistant Teachers. In such a situation, the candidates preparing for the recruitment should keep an eye on the official approval of the amendment and the new advertisement released by the commission.
