Pakistan Army’s 277th Corps Commanders Conference was held on Friday (October 2). The meeting held at the Military Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi was chaired by Chief of Army Staff and Defense Force Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The meeting reviewed the current security situation in Pakistan and directed the Army to maintain high operational readiness.
In this high-level military meeting, the Pakistan Army has taken a very tough stance on terrorism emanating from Afghanistan and issued a direct warning to the Taliban rulers. In the meeting, Pakistan reiterated its right to self-defense and targeted action against terrorism. According to the ISPR, Pakistan has held the Taliban leadership responsible for terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.
Allegation of Pakistan Army
According to the Media Wing of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the meeting clearly stated that it was Pakistan’s legitimate right to self-defence to take targeted action against the ongoing terrorism against Pakistan from the soil of Afghanistan. The Pakistani Army has alleged that the Afghan Taliban leadership is promoting terrorism for India and will be held responsible for its consequences.
Emphasis on non-dynamic action
The corps commanders appreciated the intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations of the security forces and law enforcement agencies. Along with counter-terrorism operations, emphasis was also placed on non-kinetic action. Also, the army said that mere military action was not enough. Along with this, better administration at the grassroots level, direct communication with the public, capacity building of the police and ending the terrorism-crime nexus will also have to be worked on.
Strict warning of May 9-like situation
The internal situation of Pakistan was also discussed in the meeting. The army said any attempt to create a May 9-like situation or spread unrest in the country would be dealt with decisively. Pakistan Army said that law will be followed in any such situation.
Welcomed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement
The corps commanders at the meeting welcomed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. According to the army, the agreement will strengthen the long-standing strategic and collective defense ties of the three countries. Along with this, Pakistan Army condemned the Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to Harman Sharifan’s security.
The old attitude was repeated on Kashmir too
In the meeting, Pakistan repeated its old tone regarding IIOJK i.e. Jammu and Kashmir. According to the ISPR, Pakistan will continue to support the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Asim Munir asked for operational readiness and professionalism of military commanders. Munir directed to enhance the combat capability of the Army through modern technology, better training and multi-domain integration.
