Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. India’s telecom industry, digital connectivity and advancements in new technologies are being showcased to the world in this four-day mega technology event. This year, the theme of IMC is Scale Without Boundaries, reflecting India’s growing digital capability and direction of next-generation connectivity.

In the program, Prime Minister Modi said that the India Mobile Congress has seen a change in India’s telecom sector in the last year. From a time when the country had many challenges regarding digital connectivity, India has now reached a massive 5G network. According to the Prime Minister, 5G connectivity has now reached every district of the country.

More than 5.5 lakh 5G base stations

He said that currently more than 5.5 lakh 5G base stations are operational across the country. This means that the 5G network is no longer limited to the big cities, but its reach is constantly increasing in different parts of the country. Referring to India’s digital expansion, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also said that Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis has always been that technology should reach every citizen and not just the last village. He said that technology can become a part of people’s lives on a large scale only when it is affordable and accessible to more and more people.

The cost of mobile data is very low

Giving an example of the change in data prices, Scindia said that in 2014, the cost of 1GB of data was around Rs 268. Today the same data is available for around 8 rupees. According to him, for this reason, India is among the countries in the world where the cost of mobile data is very low.

The Communications Minister also appreciated the role of telecom equipment manufacturing companies, network operators and employees involved in this sector. He said that the speed with which India has adopted 5G is a remarkable example in the world. According to him, India now has around 55 crore 5G users.

IMC 2026 will see a new picture of technology

This year India Mobile Congress will not only discuss mobile networks and telecom. Expanding the scope of the programme, four new sectors namely Smart Mobility, Stadium Experience, Industrial Robotics and Transport Technology have also been added.

Technology companies, policy makers, industry experts, startups, investors and researchers from different countries of the world are participating in IMC 2026. According to the organizers, more than 1.5 lakh people from more than 100 countries, more than 500 partners and exhibitors and around 600 startups are becoming part of the event.

The four-day event will discuss various aspects related to new digital technologies, secure digital infrastructure, innovation and technology-based economic development. It will also be seen how AI, 5G and other emerging technologies can take India’s digital economy in the coming year.
