When it comes to online shopping in India, Flipkart’s name definitely comes up. A large number of people use this platform to buy mobile phones, clothes and household essentials. Now the company is preparing to provide new facilities to its customers. Soon, along with buying goods, you can also order food of your choice through Flipkart. This can include biryani, pizza and other favorite dishes.
Flipkart is now gearing up to enter the online food delivery business. The company may introduce its new service called Eat-in by Minutes. Currently Swiggy and Zomato have a strong hold in this market. In such a situation, with the entry of Flipkart, the competition between the two companies may increase. According to reports, the company has already started testing this service in Bengaluru. It is likely to be launched for general consumers by the end of October. However, the launch date has not been officially announced yet.
Shopping and food delivery will be done through one app
Before launching a new service, Flipkart wants to thoroughly investigate it. For this reason, in the initial phase it was made available to selected employees of the company. According to reports, around 8,000 employees are now using this facility.
Through this testing, the company is trying to understand how easily the process of food order, payment and delivery is completed. If any technical issues arise during this period, they can be rectified before the mass launch.
The special thing for customers is that they don’t need to download the app separately to order food. A separate tab for food delivery can be provided within Flipkart’s existing app itself. With the help of this, users will be able to order shopping, grocery and food from a single place.
ONDC related restaurants will also be available
More and more restaurants need to connect with the platform to succeed in food delivery. For this, Flipkart is preparing to include local restaurants in its network along with big brands.
In addition, the company is also working to connect restaurants to the government-backed ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce)** network. With the help of this, customers can get different types of food options.
Eckart will handle the delivery
Flipkart can take the help of its logistics unit Ekart to deliver food to customers on time. The company is preparing a separate delivery team for food orders. This is because the requirements for normal parcel delivery and timely hot food delivery are different.
Will Swiggy and Zomato rise to the challenge?
Currently, Swiggy and Zomato are the major players in the online food delivery market. Many times customers also have to pay delivery charges and platform fees. In such a scenario, the arrival of Flipkart may increase the possibility of new offers and competitive pricing, though it is not guaranteed.
According to reports, after testing in Bengaluru, the company may launch the service in five to six major cities by the end of the year. It remains to be seen how well Flipkart’s new initiative is liked by customers and whether it becomes a strong alternative to Swiggy and Zomato.
