As the winter season approaches, the need for hot water in the home increases. From bathing in the morning to cleaning dishes, many tasks require hot water. This is the reason why most households use electric geysers to heat water.

By now you have usually seen such geysers, which have a heating rod or element installed inside. These rods are in direct contact with the water and when electricity is received, it heats up and the temperature of the water increases. But now a different type of technology is being seen in water heaters as well, which is called induction geyser. As the name suggests, induction technology is used to heat water. So the question is how different is it from a normal geyser and how is the water inside it heated?

How is water heated in an induction geyser?

The working mechanism of an induction geyser is similar to that of an induction stove. Unlike normal geysers, there are no heating rods immersed directly in the water.

In this, an electromagnetic field is created with the help of a coil. Due to this, the internal heating system heats up and then this heat is transmitted to the water. That is, the entire method of heating water is different from the traditional geyser rod.

Such systems usually include a generator unit, a water storage tank and a digital temperature control unit. Its purpose is to heat water in a short time.

What’s the big difference from a normal geyser?

The biggest difference between the two geysers is the heating system. In a typical electric geyser, the heating element is exposed to water. Calcium and other minerals present in water can gradually settle on this element. This is called scaling.

Excessive scaling over time can affect the heating efficiency and cause the geyser to take longer to heat water. It can also increase power consumption.

Induction geysers do not have electric heating rods in direct contact with the water. Due to this, problems like scaling on the rod can be reduced. Also, the absence of direct contact between water and electric heating parts can reduce some risks related to electric shock or short circuit.

However, this does not mean that induction geysers are risk-free. It’s also an electric device, so it’s important to have proper wiring, earthing, and safety features.

Will the cost of electricity be reduced?

A major claim of induction technology is related to rapid heat transfer. Due to this, the water is expected to heat up quickly and you won’t have to wait much longer.

But total electricity consumption is not dependent on technology alone. The geyser’s capacity, power rating, method of use and efficiency of the model also play a big role in this. Therefore, it is not correct to say that every induction geyser always consumes less electricity than normal geysers.

If you are looking to buy a new water heater this winter, an induction geyser can be a great option. Before buying, it would be better to check its capacity, power consumption, safety features and service support.
