Protests continue in Jamia Millia Islamia demanding student union elections. The students, who have been on hunger strike for the past several days, have accused the university administration of forcing them, removing their tents and threatening them. Keeping in mind the safety of the students, the administration has decided to conduct all classes online till further orders. The atmosphere has become more tense after controversial slogans were allegedly written on the campus.

The students’ agitation has been going on for several days demanding the restoration of student union elections in Jamia Millia Islamia. Students will go on hunger strike if their demands are not met. Meanwhile, the protesting students have made serious allegations against the university administration. Students say that a large team from the administration came to talk to them. The team included several professors and non-teaching staff.

Allegations of students

According to the students, they were initially persuaded to end the protest, but were later forced to do so. Demonstrators alleged that they were beaten up, tents erected at the protest site were removed and they were threatened. However, the administration’s stance on these allegations is yet to come out.

Classes will continue online till further orders

In view of the tense situation in the campus, the university administration has issued orders to conduct all classes online. According to the notice, the study will be conducted through online mode till further orders. The administration cited the current situation and the safety of students as the main reason behind this decision.

Tensions escalated after controversial slogans were found on the walls

Amid student protests, slogans such as Free Kashmir and Free Sharjeel Imam were allegedly found scrawled on the walls of the university campus. Apart from this, slogans targeting RSS, ABVP and the vice chancellor of the university were also seen. These slogans were later erased. In view of the situation, police arrangements have been made in the campus.

Imran Masood condemned the sloganeering

Congress MP and Uttar Pradesh Congress Working President Imran Masood reached Jamia to meet the protesting students. He condemned the controversial slogans and demanded action against those putting up the posters. Masood said he opposed such sloganeering in front of the students and clarified that Kashmir is an integral part of India. He also claimed that there were no slogans raised in support of Kashmir. Currently, there is tension in the university between the demands of student union elections and the orders of the administration.
